Hi guys, excellent thread.

I've raced with Spedeworth (Stockrod 124 then Stockrod 61) at Wimbledon, Wisbech, Ipswich and my local track and easily my favourite Arlington, I still dream about it now! I dread to think how many laps of Arena Essex I've done testing! or how many Escorts we used up! if only we knew then!! I used to run a MK1 Escort, built a MK2 shell but Starlets where the way forward so moved over to them very early on, got on great with them and had my best results in the mid 90's, since then I've mechaniced for a couple of mates who've both done well but have now had to go front wheel drive (Nova, AX and Saxo).

I've had lots of surgery since I was a kid and loads in the last 7 years but if i was given the chance and was well enough I'd be out in a 2.0 hot rod tomorrow! I think they're a good balance at the moment, not too much damage but great racing, watching a pack of them come down the pit straight at Arlington gets me everytime!!

 

I still love my classic Fords, I've had a MK2 Harrier since 1991 and a MK1 Camper since around 1996-7 and countless old Fords before and since!

i used 2 be spedeworth stock rod 261 from 2002 till 2004 and had 2 sell my nova because sadly i didnt have the money 2 compete with the "big boys" but i was a red top im like yourself, love old skool fords although im only 20 years old i had my 1st old skool ford at the tender age of 9 with a 100e popular and following that had a mk2 escort a mk1 escort and my dad had a mk1 cortina, i now have 2 anglia 105Es one has a 2.1 pinto and i love em.

 

i like the 2 litre hot rods myself and if i had the money i would definately have a go, unfortunatelly cash flow situation int that good so the old skool ford drag championship sorts that for the time being, its not quite the same tho.

Hi Luke

I bet your gutted you're not old enough to have raced a classic Ford! I think the Starlets made the best Stock Rods, rear wheel drive, coil springs all round, roller top mounts etc, they're just a lighter improved version of an escort (except they're not xflows) perfect for Stock rods really.

 

Did you make it down to Wimbledon and Arlington? I was helping Stock Rod 88 Philip Blackford and damo Wellman 2002 to 2004 and made it to Ipswich often enough. Damo's good mates with Jacko, Mark Smith etc, really great guys, a real advert for the sport!

My dad used to Scrutineer for spedeworth thats after he raced. He Scrutineered for 27 years - was cheif scrutineer at arlington and did it all over the country.

 

Although only 16 years of age i have followed spedeworth for 12 years roughly. I love the sport and i have to say guys, Field of superstox coming round pit bend does it more for me than 2ltr rods
