Kevin Mk2 Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 I finally got around to fitting my new wheels today (it's been several months since I bought them). I've gone with 13/7 superlite replicas, offset=ET -7 with 175/50/13 tyres. So with that said, I decided to measure up for some lowering blocks and springs to make it look right, but while I was doing so I noticed the near side rear sits half an inch higher than the off side. Is this just due to unevenly worn leaf springs or is there something else I should know about? How low have you guys gone with your escorts? -1" looks ok on the tape measure, but what are your opinions? Cheers Kevin
cdeane74 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 not that this helps, but nearly every mk2 ive had is higher on nearside!as for lowness, mines not got much ground clearance, but its down to personal preference
mk2 mike Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 I've got revolites on my mk2 (175/50/13 ET-7) Lowered -2 inches on blocks at the back, -1.5 inches with springs on the front. Looks ok and level but does rub the rear arches on big bumps. I'm off to get the rear arches rolled in the next few weeks. I'll measure up on Thursday for you to see if mines out of kilter one side to the other too. Just had a thought, fuel tank is on the offside which is lower. Have you a full tank of fuel when you measured?
w p e Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 the answers in the question realy. mainley drivers in car most of the time so the offside sags more over time so lower drivers side or higher pass side you can just swap the springs over so it levels up when drivers in it
texr2000 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 isnt it also something to do with the car norm pushes osr down under acceleration? dont most escorts lift nsf wheel at the pod?
Kevin Mk2 Posted May 15, 2013 Author Report Posted May 15, 2013 @Mk2 Mike. Good to know. I'll probably go with 1"-1.5". RE: Fuel tank, the Escort Van has the tank mounted to the underbody, fairly centrally IIRC. Besides, you seen the price of Petrol lately? @Everyone else. Interesting, I hadn't thought on it that way. Makes sense to swap the springs around as wpe suggests when I get around to doing the lowering blocks. Probably fit some poly bushings while I'm there too. Cheers guys!
