  1. Had this with seized rubber (stock) strut tops, but if you're on rollers I doubt that would be the cause.
  2. Ebay is full of trolls nowadays.. probably not worth wasting any more time on this one. His feedback profile looks utter shit too.. ebay don't allow sellers to neg buyers, so we end up with twats like this having 100% positive feedback.
  3. 1. Acid bath and a respray. 2. Gearbox or Diff internals. 3. Taciturn, attractive 20 y/o blonde passenger seat cover, who doesn't mind earning her keep.
  4. Lol, nice!
  5. I wonder if they pay VAT on Pasties at their subsidised canteen in parliament?
  6. Took it for a spin in the sunshine and enjoyed some of the err.. scenery.. around town.
  7. Anyone remember the 'Backbone of Britain' ads from the good old days?
  8. Hi guys. Something that's been playing on my mind since fitting lowering blocks to the Van; how tight should the Ubolts go? At the time I just tightened them up to "Good 'n' Tight", but I've started to doubt myself. Is there a specified torque setting for them, or am I just being obsessive?
  9. Thought about what size and colour of sun strip would look nice. Stood in the garage looking at it for a minute, then thought "Na, too bloody warm today."
  10. Do your bushes squeak? Mine sound like the Michelin man doing naughty things with a blow up doll.
  11. I remember back in the 90s, when I was a teenager, getting a lift in one being driven by a complete maniac. Pretty damn scary if I'm honest, but maybe my opinion will be biased. (Truly thought I was going to die that night)
  12. I'm running my Mk2 Van on JBW Minilites 13/7, -7et and 175/50/13s, with suspension lowered by 1".
  13. Gaz shocks on the back of me Van, they were a fair bit cheaper than others. (For standard MK2 van you need shocks for MK1 escort with eyelet mounts on both ends to fit, and even then, mine need slight modification to geet them on)
  14. Fitted Mk1 Escort GAZ rear shocks to my MK2 van - not a straight fit but easily remedied. Took her for a test drive, did some donuts, filled the tank, etc. Good to have it back on the road.
  15. Front: Fitted front struts, callipers and new track rod ends. Filled gear oil, changed engine oil and filter. (Had her running for a second with only the exhaust manifold on, bet the neighbours love me) Rear: Fitted new 1" lowering blocks, and polyurethane bush kit. The only problem I ran into was the new rear shackle bushes were 2mm I.D. too narrow, and I couldn't for the life of me force the bolts through, so I'm running with the old ones for now.
  16. If your engine leaks enough oil it becomes self cleaning after a while.
  17. Didn't know him, but I've always got respect for a fellow biker. RIP
  18. Refitted the flywheel, clutch and gearbox back into the van. The gearbox was a bugger because I couldn't get anyone free to give me a hand, so ended up doing it by myself. (Something I'll remember next time one of their cars need something done. ) For reasons I don't quite understand, I thought it would be a good idea to do the job on the ground outside my garage. It took three trolley jacks to get everything aligned, two for the gearbox and one for the engine, lots of swearing, and around a million midges spurring me on to get the bloody thing finished. But it's in.. thank f**k!
  19. Renewed the gaskets for the oil and fuel pumps. The one on the fuel pump was made up of some kind of crappy cardboard stuff sandwiched between two rubber gaskets.. was an absolute 'mare to get it all off.
  20. ^Good to know, thanks.
  21. Replacement strut top bushing finally arrived yesterday, so today I've painted the struts, spring cups and strut tops bushings. Then reassembled everything with new -1" springs, ready to go back in when I can be arsed.
  22. Nice looking motor! Reminds me of the MFP Persuit cars from the film 'Mad Max'.
  23. I'm tempted to get a single box sportex & manifold to tide me over until I can afford a full stainless system or even until I decide whether I'm going to stick with the 16 crossflow. At that price, why not. Does anyone know if the exhaust for a mk2 saloon will fit the Van?
  24. Worked a treat guys, ta very much!
