Kevin Mk2 Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Car is on axle stands, with engine in situ, gearbox and flywheel are out. It looks like if I remove the steering rack I might have enough room between the crank and the sub frame to slide the sump out towards the rear of the car. Anyone done this before? I don't have access to an engine hoist at the moment, unfortunately. I started out to change the clutch, but it looks like both the sump and rear crank oil seal are leaking a fair bit (Bell housing is filthy), so I thought I might as well swap those while I'm at it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions
oxb1l Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 I've never removed the sump in situ on my xflow but on my rs I dropped the cross member to do the clutch so this would help with space creation you would just need to get something sorted up across the strut tops to take the engine weight Bill (I know what I mean )
oggy69 Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 I have done a sump this way,i disconnected the steering joint and engine mounts and undone the x-member bolts, supporting the engine across the strut tops. Its not the easiest way but you can get the sump off
Kevin Mk2 Posted June 23, 2013 Author Report Posted June 23, 2013 Ah, thank you, hadn't thought of that approach.. sounds like a plan. Cheers! Kevin
