Hi team

Well after selling my 4 door mk2 escort I'm now on the hunt for a 2 door and am interested in the 1600 sport BUT....

Where can I get good info on them such as what differences did the have to other mk2 escorts and are the 1600 engine pokey, was it a limited edition?

If anybody on here could tell me about them that would be great

Thanks

The Sport was a production model not a limited edition it sat between the GL and Ghia in the range.  The shell was the same as any other standard MKII Escort.  They came with a 1600 or a 1300 Kent X Flow.  Only available as a two door however early cars (1975/76) also came in four door but could only be mated to a 1600 engine.  They came with body side stripes, twin door mirrors, spot lights and bumper overiders but inside the interior wasn't much different from the L.

They are a nice looking car but are very hard to come by now,  a fair few cars have found their way to the UK from abroad but these have a slightly different spec from UK versions.

Also looking at a lot of sports and some have different colour dash some bits brown and some bits black is this a normal combo

Trying to get interior pics but google just shows outsides of 1600 sports

Hi me again, most Escorts have an all black dash but the later cars from summer 1979 onwards had brown, but the steel part of the dash remained black just the plastics becoming brown so yes a black/brown combination is correct on a later car.

Your right there doesn't appear to be much in the way of Sport interior photos online (remember alot of cars will be modified so could have all sorts of interiors) however after ten minutes or so i've come up with these:

This is a 1980 spec car in Signal Red with black stripes it has the Chevron trimed seats (the most likely to be seen on surviving Sports today)

Below is a 1978 spec car in Jupiter Red metallic with tan stripes it has the Cadiz trimmed seats.  On a personal note I think the below cars colour combination is the best i've seen on a Sport although i've never seen one other than in this Ford publication.

Sports interiors came in a wide range of colours. Early Sports came with vinyl seats or Beta Plus fabric (as an option) the same used in the Escort Popluar Plus.

Hope this helps, any more questions i'll be glad to try and answer them.
