RossMK2 Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Went out to my escort earlier pulled the cover of to find the sides and rear of the car covered in thousands of tiny bubbles, had new arches fitted early summer last year and everywhere they painted and lacquered has bubbled from the damp and cold I ended up getting out the 2500 wet and dry to try and see if I could flat and polish them out a bit, it definitely improved the bit I have done so far, not perfect by any means but hopefully can make it at least last this year..... will do all the other areas when I have more time fingers crossed I can make it presentable
RossMK2 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Report Posted January 19, 2014 Take it back . To be honest is was only a cheap paint job and by no means was it a full on professional job, just a good decent cheap paint job. Get what pay for I suppose.... If I can get it looking ok for this year I will be happy then if it needs attention next year so be it...
irishtorag Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 I agree take it back. although most places will only give short warranty and then blame the cover on it ;(
RossMK2 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Report Posted January 19, 2014 Mines gone the same way Ross does it go when weather warms up?
mk2 mike Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Mine doesn't. I need to get it repainted 1
RossMK2 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Report Posted January 19, 2014 Mine doesn't. I need to get it repainted thought so, yeah same here really, think I'm going to flat it off polish back up to get rig of worst then get it done next year...
711jrp Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 That looks very much like "solvent pop" it's normally caused by bashing the coats on too quick, or cheap materials.........take it back unless it was a really cheap job. Pete

Pete yeah that's it, apparently the cold/damp make it come out worse. and yeah was £350 for two new rear arches to be fitted couple of other minor repairs and spraying so cant really complain.
sidpf1972 Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 you get what you pay for,my last paint job was 7k its like glass flawless if you pay a couple of hundred you cant omplain
711jrp Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Agreed, at that price it done it's job of brightening it up until it's done properly
RossMK2 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Report Posted January 19, 2014 yeah exactly, That what I mean, if I can make it last the year I will be happy, at the end of the day that's all its cost me. If I have to have it redone next year then I will. Will get reasonably priced job done at a professional place. Never going to pay mega money though as there is no point on a 4 door mk2, plus I don't want to be scared every time I go out. on the plus side my engine bay which I rattle canned myself has held up
sidpf1972 Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 fair play ross if I was you I would go over the whole job with 600 then do each panel then mop over it hey presto nice job for pennies
irishtorag Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 I find most times the solvent pop is in primer or from wet sanding primer and not drying before painting hence can be moisture causing micro blistering but yeah cheap work almost always haunts you eventually ive a 2door but a 4door is an equal car its and escort just like estate and van all as cool as fock btw love your ghia, looks the dogs danglies 1

Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 i have seen a few cars blister up 6-9 months down the line a nice flat and polish and they have been fine years later just good quality polish and wax used
RossMK2 Posted January 20, 2014 Author Report Posted January 20, 2014 Finished off flatting and polishing the rest of the top half of drivers door has come up pretty well to be honest, just very very time consuming!!!! BEFORE AFTER
In The Pit Posted January 24, 2014 Report Posted January 24, 2014 They do say you shouldn't put a car cover on a recently painted car, i've heard various times quoted for how long you should leave it for before you can use a cover.

Heard this too but some of the area that have done it haven't been touched, plus what had been painted 7 months?
sidpf1972 Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 any job done which receives a payment should have 12mnths guarantee regardless of cost, it doesn't mtter if I do a job for 30 or 30,000 its guaranteed take it back ross or demand your money, its not fit for purpose
