They can be broken for a small fortune thanks to ever increasing parts prices on eBay and the like. And the cars themselves are so easily rung. Same thing is happening in the classic mini world. :(

Yeah some real scum out there. Hope the £5000 isn't the insurance value they've got on it as I'd say its worth more than that!? Seems pretty naive to park a 2dr mk1 escort on a driveway in Dudley at night and not a locked garage, I know I wouldn't have slept easy at night!

the worse thing is, they had it parked at the bottom of the drive right by the road and had a van sheilding the car from the house, if it were the other way round it might still be there, i have walked past this a few times and though it was a bit of a silly place to have it.

i guess they are a completely different generation though, completely naive to the crappy world we live in today, my old neighbor always used to share stories of when you could leave your front door unlocked all night or borrow some sugar from the neighbor down the street

No doubt it will end up ringed using one of these blank vin plates  that some w####r is selling on ebay . Disgusting , why does someone think its ok to sell this ? Ebay item 271388948493 . Please feel free to send him some serious abuse and report it and also go on live chat and speak to someone and report it . Makes my blood boil .

you can buy those from almost anywhere, i had to buy one for my escort as the original has been lost over the years,

i guess its not the person selling it but the person who may be buying it for a non-legit reason thats at fault

It would perhaps be a good idea to make it mandatory to have to take proof of ownership (V5) and have it stamped there and then

i think there are similar rules now when buying number plates

Trouble is, the internet is a law to itself. Yes the laws for buying reg plates legally has toughened up, but you can still get any old plate online for a tenner with no documents. I doubt it'd be any different for vin tags. :(

It's an obvious thing to say but the best thing to do it try and prevent it from being nicked in the first place, garages, locks, alarms, blocking it in etc cos once it's gone its far too easy to make it 'stay gone'.

I'm paranoid about mine getting nicked, to the point where I'm reluctant to open the garage when anyone's remotely nearby in case they see what's in there. I have no problem leaving my mates £90k Porsche outside mine for a week but wouldn't dream of leaving my £8k mk2 outside overnight. Its ridiculous.

Once mines back from the mechanics it will be in a locked garage every night, at the moment its in and out of the mechanics workshop and i have to say when im up there i can see people looking over it and there probably just looking because they like it but i instantly think there planning to steal it!!. I have to admit though as much as it would kill me to have it stolen, as long as ive got an agreed valuation on it i will be using it as my daily driver, otherwise i wont use it/enjoy it and i will be living in fear, i think the constant fear of it being stolen is almost as bad as having it stolen as your always on edge, i know an agreed valuation wont replace the time, effort and sentimental value and dont get me wrong i will always be careful with it but atleast i can still get another OSF and that got to be better than not having one at all!!

Lifes way to short and i wont let the SCUM ruin my RWD fun!!

Like 5tox said the owners are from a different age. Probably not clued up with prices/demand for osf's and their parts. All of us know so we take precautions, I'd wager not many folk on here leave their car like the owners of this one did. Fingers crossed for them.
