Oh dear, what have I done....entered one at the end of July in Maldon, Essex.

Anyone done one of these before and got any tips?

I can currently swim 25m and i've got to up it to 1500m with current.

Runs okay, ran 10 miles this morning, i've got to buy a bike as I think a mountain bike might not cut it

Think I'm going to do it for G.O.S.H, my friends kid has a heart condition and they've been amazing, put them up in a flat so they could be close and also my niece spent a few weeks there.

You'll be fine! Running 12 in 1hr 40 is good. Your swimming is good, those are the hard bits.

I know a work colleague that does these and he runs 1hr 50 half marathons.

I did the London Marathon for the Samaritans. I was worried before but as long as you put the training in you'll be fine. You seem to do lots of running!

Good luck, a very good cause.

Cheers mate, went for a swim this evening, seem to be using less effort and going further/ quicker so getting there. At £60 per hour for my swimming lessons i'd be proper annoyed if i wasn't seeing improvement

I did Brentwood mate, how did you get on? Mine started freezing and pissing down with rain, then brightened up, I was not amused at the beginning

I did 1hr 36... it's a very tough course. It stayed dry though. I did it five years ago as my first half, it didn't go too well. I was sick the day before and was coughing badly but because I had paid the entry fee I felt I should do it! I did it in 2hr 16 so a huge improvement on that!

My PB for a half is 1hr 29m 59 secs! My aim was to beat 1hr 30, I did it by 1 sec! That was at the Royal Parks Half in London... a very nice one to do.

You'll be hooked now!

1hr 41 for a first one is great, well done.

I've completed numerous triathlons, both Olympic and Sprint distances as well as 3 IronMan distance events.

You're doing the right thing taking swimming lessons! I was able to slash my stroke rate quite significantly. Of the 3 disciplines swimming is by far the most technical.

You didn't say what distance event it is? If it a short sprint event your mountain bike will be ok assuming you use road tyres.. Any longer and you'll benefit from a road bike.

Max, I just looked at the Royal Parks and it's sold out. I could get a charity place though.

Herr Doktor, 3 IronMan, bloody hell, that's impressive.

I've just booked a sprint at the end of May, the one I was talking about is Olympic distance and I'm thinking of doing the Monster Ely 1/2 Ironman later in the year.

Got to be honest, I'm haemorrhaging money at the moment, wetsuits, road bike (planet x rt57), tri bars, tri suit, road bike clothes, bike shoes, the list goes on, beginning to think I should have stuck to running

First Sprint Tri completed this morning. That was good fun, my biking and swimming was very average but as expected the run was my strongest discipline. Was going to head up to the hotel we've got booked pre CF show now but think I need a kip first. Highly recommended this Tri lark!

ha ha ha ha ha! ha ha ha ha ha! ha ha ha ha ha! I'd like to say the costs reduce.

They don't!!

You'll "need" to buy lighter better kit!

It's a compulsion

Well done on the race though :-)

Olympic done, 42 min 10k I was pleased with. 35 min 1500m swim less so but the current was awful. Bike so so at 1hr 30min for 45k.

Transitions were terrible. I had the slowest time of all the blokes.

All in all pleased.

Off to drink lager and get drunk very quickly. 4.30am a very early start.
