texr2000 Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Had a little look through ebay to see whats on the market atm saw this MEXICO http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ford-Mk1-Escort-Mexico-1973-/271500408705?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f36af7781 Dont look like a MEX to me..... looks more like a 1300L or is it just me? Also see there is another Mex log book on there http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCORT-MK1-MEXICO-AVO-SHELL-FOR-RESTORATION-WITH-V5-BFAT-/281344481325?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item418170182d
texr2000 Posted May 25, 2014 Author Report Posted May 25, 2014 Looks like none mex front wings, hard to tell. Says had inner wings so spose thats why no plates on strut tops. maybe just the pics and the fact it needs a resto
texr2000 Posted May 25, 2014 Author Report Posted May 25, 2014 A Friend is on the look for a 2dr Escort and sent me the link. I know pics on ebay make things hard to get a real idea, ideally he would have to go and look but was just asking if i thought was a MEX
Savvi Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 saw it and did wonder if it was genuine, it has the studs in the boot but I thought speedo should 140mph not 130 ? You would need to look in other places not pictured like the turrets etc where they have extra plates, looks like it has hydraulic clutch so id say 80% in my eyes.
Muzzman Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 I've had a few people that know their onions look at mine.....it has a 110 speedo and no double skin on the top mounts, but then it has got the 2000e gearbox, studs in the boot and every other difference that marks them as different. Ashtons had a look and believe its genuine. I thijk these cars were worth bugger all for a lot of their lives and people just swopped things as they went wrong 1
turnover Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Half of rs2000 and Mexicos aren't original all been rebuild and the correct 49 strengthening parts welded in,but then again still the real deal just put in a better shell with th id
Mickey Stewart Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 Mexico logbook with a 2000cc engine ????
texr2000 Posted May 26, 2014 Author Report Posted May 26, 2014 I said to my friend that it may have been a Mexico then had a quick restoration and just standard parts used or been re shelled at some point. Spose thats always a risk when buying a mex or rs, could have been rotton and been 80% rebuild using new and secondhand parts meaning how much of a mex do u actually have.... Spose if u had the time u coukd fully restore a 1.1 and fit type 49bits and drop a 1600 in with 5speed (as easier to get rhan a mex box) and correct dif throw some mex id's on then be hard for many to tell
l j shaw Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 If your parting with that amount for something that could be wrong, I'd have a drive up and have a good look at the car. If I was looking for a Mk1 Mex .......this would not be on my list, something just isn't right, it may have had a few changes in its life.
