Dickies Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 Ive had my escort for a number of years now and im comtemplating a complete rebuild for it to become what i want it to be. The pinto is coming out over the winter for a rebuild so i thought, while im at it, i might aswell do the whole thing! Has anyone sucsessfully put wide arches onto a 4 door mk1 and retained the rear doors? i love the look of them but never seen it done before.
over_head_cam Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 It can be done. You have to put a section of the arch on the door and create a new shut line. Looks crap though if it doesn't line up properly. It also takes some work as you normally remove the existing arches which would mean taking a bit of the door away too. So not impossible.
mk2 mike Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 found this on google. Looks like they've retained the rear doors (or at least from the handles and shut lines it looks like it). does look like a lot of work to get that door line right though!
DT36 Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 Not sure how it would fare for an MOT, but could you hide the handles and have internal opening only?
mk2 mike Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 By law you need working handles on the outside of vehicle doors. It's in the construction and use regulations. 1
