Jiffer Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 Hello and welcome to osf. Loving them all but do like the mk3 after all I'm a cortina man. 1
SmokeEm Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 All very nice. What's your story if I may be so rude? You seem so young to have such a collection? Cool though, way cool
Lizzy Posted January 2, 2015 Author Report Posted January 2, 2015 What's my story? Well, I'm not quite as young as I look, and the story's not all legal, but the bits I can share are... that my granddad (who was also my step-dad) had a Mk3 (XL, bronze + black vinyl roof). Many happy memories, like we used to drive in it to Vienna every summer to stay with my nan's family. I love the way people come up to me wherever I go in the Cortina and tell me about their own memories - it's constant! Does that happen to you Jiffer? Then my first proper boyfriend had one when I was 17 (2000E, automatic, orange + black vinyl roof). He had been taught to drive by a rally driver, and taught me how to drive in the Tina - it used to drift so well! The driver's door didn't open, and the starter motor was knackered, so you used to have to leave the engine running at the petrol station, and then jump back in through the window! So yeah, I had to get my own eventually! I also had a friend, a settled Traveller (from when I was 15 onwards) who had a Mk1 Transit. That was also great fun (e.g., no passenger door!) and he made me realise that everyone should have a van you can sleep in if you need to (you know, like if there's a zombie apocalypse or whatever), and what van could be more beautiful than a Mk1 Transit? Are you bored yet? Just lastly then... I also missed my Mk1 Escort, which I had to let go (in my 20s) cos I couldn't afford to get the floor welded. Very sad. It was great though - copper-coloured with yellow doors and a silver (galvanised) bonnet! Unmistakeable. Irreplaceable. But there was a Mk1 Escort-shaped hole my life, so... I just hope this French import isn't a mistake - not sure about left-hand bends in the lanes! 1
Lizzy Posted January 3, 2015 Author Report Posted January 3, 2015 Re. lucky - would just like to say, yes I do feel very lucky. But also (apart from essentials) vehicles is the only thing I spend money on. Vehicles is what I do. I go for years at a time without buying any clothes (or shoes! lol), I do my own hair, don't smoke, drink at home mostly, don't use make-up or perfume... Nothing else interests me. So there is luck involved to be sure (to be sure) but I think it's also a matter of focus. Innit? By the way, what does "vote this post up" on other people's posts mean? What is the point of that? 2
Jiffer Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 I do get it a fair bit especially with the mk1 Cortina, corr I had one of those springs to mind, probably the most disturbing was when my aunt told me about putting her feet prints in the roof lining, not gonna shake off that image for many years yet. well love them all and enjoy OSF, were not a bad bunch. 1
