Andrade Posted February 21, 2015 Report Posted February 21, 2015 Can anyone point me in the direction of good quality Escort mk1 2 door rubber seals? Ideally ones which you won't have to kick the doors to close
Pelikan Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161530886564?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT#ht_1078wt_1090 Bought these last week, arrived the other day but as I work away from home during the week, I have not fitted them yet. They are promoted in the listing and with a video of being as easy to close not like the others for sale. I will update if anyone is interested, with my results after fitting.
Rallye Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 Mini doors seals work well I'm informed. Sold by the metre.
Andrade Posted February 27, 2015 Author Report Posted February 27, 2015 Thanks guys! @ Pelikan had you got around fitting them by any chance?
Pelikan Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 Thanks guys! @ Pelikan had you got around fitting them by any chance? HI, Just fitted them today and they certainly don't need as much slam as the other new ones that I bought from a well known Ebay Escort source months ago. I noticed that the these new ones have the crushable foam rubber tube which is not as big in diameter compared to the others I bought and these new ones have small holes every so often which helps in my opinion if any air is trapped it should not be like pushing against a balloon if you get the drift etc. (They still seal all round when looking from inside the car even though slightly smaller crushable seal part etc). My doors on my Mk1 shut with still a little extra effort than being A1 perfect but certainly not as much as before and im pretty sure that when they settle in to shape, they will be even easier to close through time. All in, I would recommend them and I think I will order another set for my other Mk1 escort, especially at that price. 1
Andrade Posted February 28, 2015 Author Report Posted February 28, 2015 thans for that! was about to place the order but they went out of stock on their ebay page... willl keep an eye open
Bigfish Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 evening gents I own Retro Bolts UK. ill have these back in stock probably tuesday next week. thanks for the feed back 1
Andrade Posted March 1, 2015 Author Report Posted March 1, 2015 cool thanks for that! While at it, I sent you an email through the website for postage cost to Malta. And something else crossed my mind. I also need a set of bolts & proper locknuts for 13gt struts which go through the backplate, strut, and steering arms. Do you happen to have any of those? Mine keep coming slightly loose even with threadlock and they rattle with every minor road imperfection
2512pf Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 I purchased some form a company in kent to say they were terrible is an understatement they were know where near even with slamming the doors ,tried the drill holes in the back route ,made no difference ,in the end fitted some similar to vw ones and it sounded like a golf

I do have steering arm bolts can you confirm length most don't use back plates any more. so would like to double check I supplied the correct length for you thanks
Andrade Posted March 1, 2015 Author Report Posted March 1, 2015 I would have to take the hub off just to check the length. The backplate is not very wide though so I don't think 2mm will make much of a difference? Are the bolts metric? these are for mk1 struts not mk2 so I need these in UNF thread ideally

Andrade Posted March 2, 2015 Author Report Posted March 2, 2015 Hi there Sounds good to me. I need the rubber seals for both sides of my estate, same lengths as the two door escorts. I'll have the steering arm UNF bolt kit as well. I assume the kit is for both sides? Shall I purchase them through the site?

Andrade Posted March 11, 2015 Author Report Posted March 11, 2015 So quick update: Door seals are in place. A bit harder to close the doors but on a positive note they are no longer leaking when it rains. I assume over time they will settle in place as that's what these seals do. Bolts got here as well but I'm yet to install them.
Andrade Posted March 12, 2015 Author Report Posted March 12, 2015 door closing better already almost back to normal
Bigfish Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 glad you happy mate. if you need anything else please let me know 1
