robert maguire Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 I am no expert either on electrics but I can do most work but I think relay would be good idea. Most cars have fuel pump relays fitted from new ,possibly for the voltage load.Plus relay can be controlled from ignition switch etc,I would expect live from key?? and then it cuts off when key is switched off.Sounds good??
Blue ass fly Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 Mines fused Scoot I dont think they draw much current , not like a high pressure one Robert, mount the pump as close to the tank and as low as you can - they push rather than suck I made a little bracket ( like a cylinder coil one) and mounted it on rubber bobbins Hose clips will suffice as theyre very low pressure
robert maguire Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 Thanks ,I have fitted the new fuel lines yesterday and waiting on pump ,maybe tomorrow hopefully. At the moment I am fitting new battery cables to have battery in the boot also.I have drilled 24mm holes in boot floor, near the curved sides and grommets fitted with 13mm battery cable (16mm outside approx), just need battery box.I have cut off switch ready to fit also.Anf fitting fuse to battery cable ,thinks its 250amp but not sure on actual draw down when cranking.I can always change the fuse afterwards. Its bolt in jobbie with nice plastic snap on cover etc.It takes the battery lug fittment with m8 nuts.Just need to get lend of lug crimper but my mate has one tomorrow as its Paddys Day here today.Slowly getting there but still loads to do.I have it cranking over now so when fuel pump arrives it might finally fire up.Eureka !!
DT36 Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 It doesn't have to have a relay, but there's no harm in fitting one. Mine is currently powered from an ignition live at the fuse box and has been like this for about 2 years. I intend to fit one of those push button starts that also have a pump switch beside them soon. When I eventually do this, I'll probably run a relay as well.
