Is the Type 9 gear box a straight swap on my 1300 escort and what would be the pros and cons?

 

I will be traveling 800 miles most weekends

not a straight swap

you have to change clutch, cluch cable, spedo cable,propshaft,gearbox mounts and move the hole for the gearlever

Sounds a lot of work mate but most of these bits are available off the shelf.

 

If your driving that many miles ( respect ) you will get the money back in no time with saved fuel etc.

Is it your everyday car? would only cost about £200 to do the lot i would imagine, well worth it if its your everyday car!

does the 1300 have enogh torque to turn the cogs in 5th?

What car's can the parts be sorted from

gearbox from any 5 speed ohc or cvh sierra (not mk3 granada which has electric speedo) escort auto propshaft and clutch disc with splines that sut the box and diam that suits the fly wheel

gearbox from 4 cylinder sierra not v6 cluch cable from rs2000 prop from rs2000 clutch form 1600 pinto sierra not cvh speedo cable from sierra hole for gearlever move back 4 inches gear box mounts move back 4 inches
