I'm getting the modifying itch and wondering what I can do to Nina...

I used to love 4 branch manifolds and wondered if I could get a pair of 3 branch ones for Nina. guess they'd have to be custom made... could a pair of Essex ones be modified or should I start from scratch...

does anyone know where I could go to get them made?

You need a manifold for the colonge rather than the essex for yours. You can get 3 branch ones for the 2.8 capri with the colonge engine BUT be careful as a standard capri manifold may not fit in the tina (might not clear the starter / steering col etc) so would prob have to be modified. There must be some ppl on here who have tried it and know more than me! Check out the cortina page...

i wanted to change the manifolds as the original siamese manifold strangles the engine. once thats done was hoping to build twin side exit exhaust...

Sounds like a good way to go would be to get a pair of colonge 3 branch manifolds from ebay or summin and get the rest fabricated / modified at the same time, should look good

you can get 2 branch manifolds, i think janspeed did them, might be worth trying sierra ones rather than capri ones as they are likley to be a closer fit, I had to use a sierra 4 branch on my sisters 2 litre auto mk4 cortina to clear the bigger gaerbox so sierra ones will clear the floor and chassis, might clear the steering column as well on the V6.

Could always hunt about for a set of proper heads or another complete engine. don't reckon it'd cost huge amounts for a reasonable one from a breakers/scrappy or fleabay, then bin those 'orrible siamesed heads.

heres a couple of essex lumps i found going cheap:

hope they're of some use to somebody.

the essex engine is completely different, heads wont fit the cologne engine.

easiest way to get more power from the cologne (i dunno if you have the 2.3 or the 2.8 ) is to fit a 2.9 24 valve version from a cossie granny, needs a bit of wirng sorted out and a fuel injection modified tank and fuel lines, but 200bhp for an engine you can get out of a £300 car is by far the best value for money.

even if you include buying a stronger gearbox and some better brakes you could probably do the job for under a grand, you wont get 200bhp from an old 2.8 that cheap. :)
