Nettles Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Went to the NSRA Southern swap meet today at Arena Essex. The rain managed to hold off for most of the day so the turn out was very good. There was a lot more sellers this year with a huge amount of spares available. There were quite a few project cars up for grabs as well. I did managed to grab myself some great bargains for my 53 Anglia and I was surprised to see a lot more Capri and Escort parts for sale this year, usually this meet is aimed more towards pre 70’s cars. There were also a good amount of old Fords parked up in the car park, I recognized a couple them from OSF. I did plan on taking a few more photos but the rain eventually came late afternoon sending most people home. If anyone else went let me know what you thought.

My dad was dissapointed coz he thought i didnt want him to go, coz i said that it was for older stuff I feel really bad, but I phoned him in the morn to see if he was coming You got some good buys Neil and so did dean. I'm stealing the number plate off the tailgate that he bought. Just a shame that u had to wait at Pop Browns tent for so long in the rain!
prefectopop Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 The NSRA meet here is always good, although everyone is guaranteed to come away with one thing - very cold feet! Was my 4th one this year and every year it gets bigger and bigger. I didn't plan on buying anything and I didn't (how good am I) but its always a good meet to get you in the mood for the year ahead. A lot of the stuff on the stands has been knocking around for a while - I think it just goes from trader to trader - but there's always some little gems. Did anyone see the mint Ford Pop sit-up-and-beg knocking around - that was stunning but not for sale unfortunately! Again it was a good day out, even if the rain slowed things downs towards the end - at least it wasn't snow that it has been in the past. One thing I wasn't impressed with tho was Pop Parts Plus - they seemed to have a proper attitude problem and a lot of their stuff for sale was overpriced - it may be the first meet of the season but don't take the whatsname peeps! Lots of wicked cars in the car park too - a really nice mk2 Zodiac caught my attention as well as numerous hot rods and pickups. Every year I dread the bleak weather up there but I wouldn't miss it for anything....!

Neil(nettles) went to that stall and made a quick getaway coz of the prices Me, dean and Neil went to the meet and me and dean were wearing our osf hoodies
prefectopop Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I think that was probably the same stall - shame cos if they had been nice and reasonably priced I would have bought quite a bit - had smoke pouring from my pockets cos the money was burning holes. Had to spend it on a burger instead! Didn't see you guys - would have said hello if I'd seen the hoodies!

This meet was my 2nd year and it was an improvement on last years meet. I totally agree with you about the prices from Pop Parts Plus, I nearly fell over when he wanted £275 for a 103e boot lid and £250 each for a couple of rusty front wings. I know the traders are trying to make money but that seemed excessively high compared to some of the other dealers. I haven’t been to the Northern swap meet yet, maybe I will make the trek from Medway to Rotherham this year.
prefectopop Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Hey Nettles - that may be a good idea to try the Northern swap meet - although I know a lot of the guys there on sunday are from up north (sort of mix with the Mopar Muscle Association and the BHRA) so I don't know if it will be much different. I suppose it might be an idea to see if these traders are any cheaper over the phone... Failing that its back to surfing ebay for me

prefectopop Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 I didn't no - I'm not a member of the BHRA yet but will be very shortly - they're a nice bunch of guys. They meet at Mickey's Diner on Bluebell Hill (by the petrol station) every thursday night - lots of members with a wealth of knowledge and anecdotes. Will PM you when we're going up there next maybe we can meet up?

I used to be a member of BHRA but got fed up with their odd internal political issues. I was at the swap meet too in my missus' black 1600e. Bought a lovely Nardi Torino wooden steering wheel for my Cortina

I took a few photos of her, I love the flame job fella. I heard that the BHRA has had a change of leadership and is now meeting at Mickey’s Diner on Bluebell hill. I might go one Thursday and have a look.

I'm was more into rods and trucks really, but am quite struck on the old fords now too. That Tina has been my daily driver for about 8 years. I would normally take my Mercury truck to stuff like that, but wanted to show off my new paint! Did you have the pop in your sig there?? Where abouts do you live?

I live in Strood so the Flames and Frames show was nice and local. I take it you know Ray then? I met Ray back in Feb last year when he did some Von Dutch style pin-striping on my leg, obviously he was the best tattooist for the job!

There was only three sit up and begs there amongst all the cars on show, so I had plenty of time to have a good look over them. I took loads of photos so when I get a chance I’ll sort through them and send you the ones of your tina. I’ve got a Rover 3.5 V8 with 4 speed manual box waiting to go in my Pop, but I’ve got loads to do before I get to that stage. I will need to get in touch with Burnham autos at some point in the future because I need some body mods sorted out. Either of you two gents (Prefectopop & Rustypup) going up to the Ace Café this Saturday? I’m going up with my bruv so I should be there for a while. Be good to say hi if you’re going.
