Have you done a compression check? Maybe obvious but may give you a heads up

Maybe go and buy a cam kit and fit that, head off and you can check bores whilst your at it

if you say no 3 lobe looks worn your never going to get it right, how tight is it? How your turning it?

Iv took head off.the bottom end is fine crank turns as it should etc.on the head iv put socket on cam and when it turns to around cylinder 3 it kind of slips/jerks so im guessing problem is with cam

That’s good news then

get a decent cam that suits your requirements and you should be good to go and you should be able to set it up properly

Agreed. Get a cam that suits how and where you drive the car.

Cheers any recommendation? Want power range 2000 to 6000 i believe the 285 cam is quite good. Iv got standard bottom end stage 3 head twin 45s

285 has always been a decent cam and somebody recommended it to me when I built my Pinto.

I ended up going with a FR30. Stage 1 Vulcan head. 2.1 bottom end on bike carbs.

Car produced 153bhp on the rollers and is very well behaved. Also idles nice.

There is a very big difference between a 285 and an FR30

The FR30 was designed as a high torque cam which revs to standard Pinto design and the 285 or FR33 will rev to 7500 and you would want fairly high compression to make the best out of it.

First thing you have to do is find out what the compression ratio of your engine currently is then you can plan for a cam
