RUSTYPUP Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 If you have an ignition only (IE not injected and no dizzy) set up in your car or know somebody that has ....... does the ECU take the RPM pulse from the crank sensor at the front of the engine, or am I supposed to have the later type cam sensor on the back of the head??? The harness I have been supplied has a two pin plug for the RPM sensor, but my crank sensor is 3. I checked another crank sensor and a cam sensor on a late Caibra but thay were all 3 pin connections. Anyone able to shed any sensible light on this please?
GT_Jim Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 the crank does the ignition the cam is used for injection
johnny_h Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Anyone able to shed any sensible light on this please? I can't help
RUSTYPUP Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 the crank does the ignition the cam is used for injection Ta very much. Do you think I may have been supplied the wrong harness then seeing as it doesn't fit the Vauxhall crank sensor?
Tom Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 what kit have you got mate? ford crank sensors only have 2 wires.you need to be careful because vauxhall use a 72-2 trigger wheel and ford uses a 36-1 trigger wheel and you cant switch these around with some systems
GT_Jim Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 id go down to your local scrap yeard and see if you can dig out a vauxhal loom that matches
RUSTYPUP Posted March 25, 2007 Author Report Posted March 25, 2007 I had a closer look at all the documentation today (now I've stopped bitching about it) and it lists a 3 pin connector for the RPM sensor on my harness but alas, mine is only 2. So I'm sure theyve fooked up. I would try to get one from a scrappy but they're pretty spiteful these days and I have already bought a newun, so I think I'll have a moan up and get it sorted. Thanks again for your ideas Tom and Jim
