hellblue Posted June 16, 2008 Author Report Posted June 16, 2008 Here is all the info you should need..... MK1 Cortina Owners Club National Rally Timetable August 16th & 17th 2008: The MK1 Cortina Owners Club would like to invite you and your family and friends to enjoy the weekend at the club's annual international show, and we’d like to announce that we are to be joined this year by the Anglia 105e, MK2 Cortina and Corsair owners club who have elected to hold their own respective national shows with us. The following is a preliminary timetable of events and times for the weekend, produced to help you and us so that you can enjoy what the weekend will offer, and if you turn up with your MK1 Cortina entry to the show is free! There is no need to pre-book to attend the show, unless you require an electric hook-up for your caravan (please see later notes on camping), or a trader sales pitch, just turn up and enjoy the weekend or either of the day's with us. This year there are a number of different things going on over the weekend and we will of course be joined by many other car clubs or individual visitors over the weekend, and we have Charles Thompson as our special guest this year who was the original designer of the Cortina at Ford Motor Company. The weekend is open to all whether you have a Cortina or not, and there will be visiting club's too. Although we do have prize giving and judging for the concourse cars, this is certainly not the aim of the club, and we encourage anything that is capable of making it to the rally to come along. The aim of the club is to keep the cars on the road, and so we don't mind at all if it's covered in rust or primer paint, we've all been there, and you’ll find a welcoming smile and plenty of support when you arrive. We encourage all MK 1's, modified, race & rally prepared, daily drivers, restoration projects, and shiny concourse cars too; we’ve even introduced a special fun prize for those that wish to enter called ‘grotty but legal’ for those vehicles less than perfect; if the vehicle is road legal it’s eligible to enter. The rally is taking place at Stratford Upon-Avon horse racing course over the weekend of August 16th & 17th, and is well signposted on brown local area signs. A map has been provided in the pre-rally programme, and as you will be able to see, is Stratford is easily accessible from all major motorways. Friday August 15th: You can gain entry to the racecourse from 5p.m. on Friday August 15th 2008, this allows entry for the camping area only, to allow you all time to set-up your tents and caravans and settle in, and of course get the BBQ's lit and the beer chilled!!. The reason for restricting access on the Friday is of course to allow for the set-up of the show itself; and there is a great deal to do, but if you would like to help please make yourself known and feel free to volunteer in any capacity, even half an hour would help tremendously as we are of course all volunteers ourselves. The camping area will be open from 5 p.m. until 10.00 p.m. if you think you can pitch your tent in the dark, but this also allows time for those of you travelling. We have a regular contingent from Holland, Belgium & Norway that arrive with their Cortinas, and so those of you that think it's a long way think again! Saturday August 16th: The rally itself opens officially at 8.30 a.m. on the Saturday, with breakfasts being served from the excellent food van as last year. We don't traditionally having judging of the cars on the Saturday, this day is a social day when you can take advantage of the different areas if you wish, such as the spares being sold from the club's extensive range, and the club's latest regalia range will be available too. We also have a 'traders' area for spares too, which you yourself can book too and make use of to clear your garage of those spare parts's that are surplus to requirements, or take a look around to find that elusive part - Please contact Brian Raymond tel. 01225 351626 (after 6pm) to reserve a space Your membership can be renewed, an advertisement placed on our bulletin board, and technical advice sought if you require it. Alternatively you can sit in a deckchair all day and enjoy the view, the choice is yours. There hopefully will be a children’s entertainer on site over the weekend too, to help provide some light relief if you’re bringing your family to the show, plus all of the usual and the new elements that are going to provide you with an enjoyable time with us. Timetable: Saturday 22nd September:- Gates open from 8.30am Spares building to open 9.30am to 2.00pm Saturday Talk by special guest Charles Thompson Chief Designer for the Ford Motor Company and of the Cortina back in the 1960’s 2.15pm – 2.45pm Road run to Evesham Country park 3.00 – 4.30pm General knowledge & pop quiz 7.00pm to 8.30pm (please be rompt) Raffle & games 8.30pm to 9.00pm Disco 9.00pm to finish Unofficial-ish BBQ being lit at 10.00pm to 10.30pm so bring some spare sausages and bread rolls! This all takes place in the main building away from the camping area, and so those that prefer a quieter evening can enjoy their weekend too. If you don't know anyone to make a team for the quiz, it's a good place to make friends very quickly. The food van will be serving until early evening, please note that there is no licensed bar on site, and so if you are planning on consuming alcohol (who’s not!!?) then you will need to plan ahead and bring more than enough with you. Spare alcohol is also encouraged in case you meet any of the committee!!!!! Sunday August 17th: The rally opens officially on Sunday at 8.30 a.m., with breakfasts available. Whether you have a show vehicle or not, today we try and encourage all of the owners to put all of cars that arrive on display in the main field, to actively show what the club is about. For those of you that are interested, concourse judging will take place today too, with prizes for best G.T., Super, Deluxe, Lotus, modified etc, as well as best visitor trophies for non-MK1's. We set aside areas for other invited clubs too, as well as individual vehicles to add to the variety and enjoyment of the weekend. We would ask that all vehicles are in place on the field by 11.00 a.m., so that people can walk safely around the arena, and to allow enough time for people to view everything on show, and for them to place their votes for the judging. Voting slips are to be completed and handed in by 12.30. Unlike some other club's, we don't have a panel of judges to evaluate vehicles on the shiniest hub-caps, you yourself judge the vehicles on their own merits and what you like to see. Only at the end of the judging and the votes are counted do we bring in a special guest, and that person then selects the supreme champion from the winners of each judged group of MK1's. Again the criteria for judging supreme champion is not who has the best chrome, or cleanest exhaust pipe, and so don't think your car doesn't stand a chance! Prize giving is at 3.p.m. in front of the main building, and we would encourage you all to attend, as this is all part of the atmosphere of the weekend. Timetable: Sunday 29th July:- Gates open from 8.30am Spares building to open Sunday 10am to 2pm Games 11.30pm onwards – roll the tyre competition 12.30pm Spark plug changing competition Prize giving 3pm Sunday Litter pick and Spares loading to close We hope you enjoy the weekend at Stratford and what it has to offer to everyone. Please leave the field clean & tidy when you leave, and put the bin bag provided to each of you in your goody bag to good use. Skips are positioned around the field too, and extra bags can be provided, just ask. If you don't have to rush off, any help you can provide with clearing away is greatly appreciated The show officially closes at 5p.m. The weekend is open to both club members and the general public, with other clubs welcomed and invited to participate. If you require any more information on this years show, please contact Brian Raymond on 01225 351626 (after 6pm) or you can e-mail Alison-membership@blueyonder.co.uk Admission: With a MK1 Cortina – Free!! General admission £5 per car for the weekend Camping £5 per car for the weekend (Friday-Sunday) Club official Spares & Regalia times: Open 9.30am to 2.00pm Saturday Sunday 10am to 2pm Special notes for campers: . If you require an electric hook-up for you caravan, please contact Stratford Race course administration directly to reserve a space prior to the rally: Please call Colin Richardson Telephone 01789 201063 On-site shower facilities are available too, please ask for a token at gate control If you feel that other campers may disturb you over the weekend, please speak to someone from the club when you arrive, and we will try and find you a quieter spot to pitch your tent. We want to encourage everyone to enjoy the weekend for what it is, and we don't discourage anyone from enjoying the rally as the social event that it is, but we do appreciate that everyone has his or her own idea of 'social'. We can only help you if you make your problem and yourself known, and so don't suffer in silence, talk to us we don't bite. A bus service runs from the main road a few hundred yards from the entrance to the race course, and so you can take advantage of being able to see the historic town of Stratford at your convenience. We hope you enjoy the weekend as we all usually do, plus all of the extra attractions such as the live band playing, the fun and games of the quiz and disco, and the road run and treasure hunt.
