  1. Lovely motor mate sits just right on those wheels
  2. Yeah i did mine 50mm down, as per the guide but id put them right at the top next time, maybe 5mm down to give something to weld to. If you do put them this high up just watch you dont damage the thread inside the top of the strut. Burtons recomended an 11 or 12" spring for me at the time, if i did it again id use about a 8" long spring. Good luck
  3. when i did mine i welded top and bottom with a mig, didnt grind the welds down but why would you need to remove the spring seats? Also if i did mine again i would position the adjuster tube higher up the strut and run quite a short spring so i had more wheel/tyre clearance. Im no expert though so i stand to be corrected.
  4. great car mate! perfect engine choice, bet it sounds rude what colour is it by the way? looks stunning, especially with the cibies
  5. Wow! that looks amazing! wheels suit it perfectly too, very jealous!
  6. Thanks for the comments guys, the car had its MOT last week and failed on 3 stupid little things; front number plate not visible enough, no rubber seal on the petrol cap and insuficient screen wash fluid!? They were all sorted by the end of the same day, so its now on the road I'm loving driving it, gets loads of attention. just paranoid leaving it anywhere! Here is a little 'action' photo.
  7. Get a quote from Adrian Flux when your looking mate, cheapest for me. im 21 but with no ncb insuring a modified mk1 Capri, costs me £1500 when i was 17 i had a 1300 Mk2 Escort, cost £3500 a year. theyll normally do you a better deal over the phone than on them comparison sites aswell Loving all the old yank motors mate, theyre so cool
  8. cool vid mate, very well put together. car is a beauty too
  9. Found out some interesting info on my Capri and thought i'd share it, so its a 1973 car, last time it was taxed was '79! Could the 46k on the clock be genuine? does anyone know how i can track down the previous owners? or get any more of its history?
  10. Thanks mate! Im itching to give it some proper abuse, just waiting for the new V5 to come!
  11. I've just fitted a complete set of rubbers from East Kent on my Mk1 Capri and was happy enough with the quality/fit of them. Although ive never used any others to compare em to.
  12. Thanks mate, and yeah theres some realy nice ones out there, and because they dont rust as much theres still quite a few standard 'one lady owner from new' ones knocking about. The photos do make the van look better than it was if im honest, and it was quite rotten under the skin but I loved it!
  13. Ok, I've put some pictures up in the readers rides section for everyone.
  14. Ok, Im new around here so i thought i would post some pictures of my old Fords so far. My first was a Mk2 Escort estate for my first car when i was 17, but i cant find any photos of it! For the last 2 years Ive been working in Australia, while I was there I had 2 Escorts. The first was this 4 door, it had sat in a field for years and i got it dirt cheap but the shell was almost perfect. Fixed it up, repainted it then got an offer i couldnt refuse so i sold it and bought this .. (Landy was mine too) Got rid of the ugly side windows, dropped a pinto in it, GAZ suspension, HiSpec brakes, LSD etc and it ended up like this.. I had so much fun bombing round Brisbane in this. A year before I went to Oz I bought my Capri, Spent the year doing it up and it looked like this when i left it.. I got back about a month ago and decided I didnt like the front spoiler or my custom arch flares. And the paint wasnt good enough! So I've changed them and repainted it, so it looks like this.. So its now almost ready for the road, just a few odd bits to do. So what does everyone think?
  15. Hi everyone, been lurking around here for a while and have learnt so much from everyone, thought it was time i introduced myself. My name is Michael, and i live in Formby, Merseyside. My first car, in 2008 was a Mk2 Escort Estate, inevitably i had a few crashes in it, and the rust got pretty bad, but it got me addicted to old rwd fords. Currently I am the very proud owner of a '73 Mk1 Capri. I bought it in 2009 and spent a year doing it up, then it was left in a garage for 2 years while i went off to Australia. While i was over there i had a Mk2 Escort 4 door and a Mk2 van, both with pintos. I have recently returned and im now just finishing off the fiddly last bits on the Capri then its ready for the road. I cant wait.
