Bumping as still no joy and the usual suspects like GS have nothing in stock. Only thing holding me back now from cracking on and actually getting the thing sorted.
-
Long time no post. Finally got my Mk2 4 door into the bodyshop and getting it prepped, underside is all done and mechanically it's more or less sorted. However it had a glass roof and the roof is all warped now so I need a roof skin. I'm in Newcastle, would prefer something local but will travel if needs be, I know RWD in Durham used to have some but I can't find his number anywhere.

Is Granada Estate B978 BNM on AutoTrader someone on here??
doubleg replied to doubleg's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
1988 is when it was "imported" from Jersey. Was something else in the ad I was referring to which doesn't ring true from when I had the car. I'm assuming it is a mistake and they are not being deliberately misleading which is why I was asking if the seller was a forum member. Would rather not mention in public as yet as I wanted to allow who ever it is to sort out the mistake. -
Been looking at Auto Trader this morning and spotted this for sale. Is it someone on here selling it as it's my old car and something in the advert strikes me as being incorrect and I wondered if the current owner was on here. Assuming it's a mistake rather than deliberate. If owner is on here can they please contact me. http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/FORD+GRANADA/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-240-4294943235-4294967050/advert.action?R=200922335315935&distance=248&postcode=NE29+7BU&channel=CARS&make=FORD&model=GRANADA&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=1988&vehicleRegLetter=

Think I will be going for the kip in the car option and doing the whole three days. Best rally of the year by far, can't help but get excited when you look down an entry list and it's nigh on 75% Escorts plus a few Cortinas for good measure.

If anyone has info specifically on the Anglia, Nigel Cardale the cars owner can be contacted on 07766 444915. The van has been found by the police in Consett. Apparantly relatively unscathed. I will be seeing Peter tomorrow afternoon so I will ask him for some registration numbers from the VIN Plates and post them on here. -

I don't have any pictures of the car. Spec as follows: 2ltr pinto engine in black plastic coated space frame; type 9 gearbox, fibreglass flipup bonnet, capri front struts rear capri drums with avo shockers, A frame axle locating bars. Black/blue Cobra seats and Willans harnesses, half rollcage. Chrome minilite type wheels. Registration number is KAS 853. I will contact Nigel and see if he has any pics I can put up. -
Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but I have done a search and can't find it. Peter Lawson of RWD in Durham has been turned over and had his transit van, trailer and an Anglia rally car stolen. The Anglia has a one piece flip up front end. Also stolen where a number of vin plates and log books for shells Peter had. If anyone has any info or is offered anything suspicous can they please contact Peter or alternatively contact me via here and I will pass the info on to Peter.

Steve Bannister Pre-Scottish Rally Testing. Photos and Video
doubleg replied to doubleg's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
I don't think you neccesarily are, much as I love seeing the Escort's out I do have an element of the "god I hope he doesn't bin it" mentality. Even to the point that I am torn with what to do with one of my Mk1 shells, one side of me looks at it and thinks, good solid shell ideal basis for a rally car, other side of me thinks it's to good to be a rally car. -

Tim I'm fairly sure he will be out on the RAC again. Driver, car sounds much better in the flesh the drop in quality when uploading to youtube takes some of the edge off it. -
Few of Banner taken while he was testing today, some taken by me some taken by one of our club members while I was out in the car. and also a video of it which I have stuck on youtube I have all of the pictures we took today on a Retards Club gallery which none Retards Club members should also be able to view. Pre-Pirelli Rally Testing - Pictures and Videos
doubleg replied to doubleg's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
I was doing stage starts on SS6 / SS13 Archie's Rigg which is part of the old Pundershaw stage. The Escort's were all cracking off the line, surprise of the day for me was the S2000 class Toyota in the International. It sounded like a proper car!! Not too bad a day really, especially winding the RAF and Army boys in the Land Rovers up by telling them that the others had been saying they were shite. Doing startlines is seldom a good day out as it is just constantly being busy and not seeing anything of note. -
Pre-Pirelli Rally Testing - Pictures and Videos

Another video from the testing, Hannu Mikkola's son Vesa in a Honda Civic. About as far away from old skool Ford as you can get but probably of interest to those who remember Hannu in the Escort days. Edit: link not added earlier http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7RMYdMf9Qw -
Spent today in Kielder while some crews were out testing ready for the Pirelli rally. I've put a video of one of the Mk2's which was out on you tube the crew are Irish, I believe the driver was called Cunningham. Still haven't sorted through all the pics properly so will add more later. I was playing about with my dads new camera so they aren't the best of pics. For now I have three (not all old skool though) Very un old-skool but I quite liked the pic. The Irish lads in the Mk2 The Old Skool but non Ford Porsche 911 of Richard Tuthill.

Clark didn't really have any major accidents, however on the 78 RAC rally he crashed on the last day when he hit a gatepost and rolled the car when driving with no clutch or starter motor. They got the car back on its wheels but with no clutch or starter couldn't get it going again. One interesting accident he had was in the early Cortina Mk1 days when he hit a tree sideways after finishing a stage. A Mini was stopped in the road and in trying to avoid it the car went out of shape and they went off into they tree. It was on the Scottish if I remember rightly. He also had an accident on the World Cup Rally while his co-driver Alec Poole was driving on a road section. Clark was rummaging around trying to find something in the back, Poole turned to see what he was doing and they ran into the back of a non-competitors car. Clark did state that he didn't know about it until his arse hit the dashboard. Other than those and the lies of the odd errant sheep on Epynt and the like he was mostly accident free for the majority of his career. There are a few stories involving other crashes which Clark was around, the best known probably being when Graham Hill was driving round Bagshot in a rally car, he was doing runs around then the noise stopped, couple of minutes later Graham Hill turned up and said the windscreen was broken so he has left the car parked up, it wasn't until the mechanics turned up that they found out the reason the screen was broken was because the car was on it's roof !!

If you want to get involved in road rallying best bet is to offer your services as a marshall. As Tim states route info is generally kept under wraps due to the nature of the events and also to try and prevent potential PR issues caused by spectators.

Event was won by Steve Retchless in his Mk2 RS2000. On the section I was on he was at least 40 seconds up on the cars running ahead within 5 or 6 miles of the start. Also a very good run by Pete Tyson in the historic Mini, might not be a Ford but it is definitely very Old Skool Steve Retchless Pete Tyson One other interesting car. (OK might not be interesting to most but it is RWD and they actually make a reasonable club car.)

This Saturday night starting in Garstang. Only a half nighter so not on as late as the rest usually are and not a run through till six in the morning. Not to much Old Skool stuff out other than Pete Tyson's 1970 Mini and a Mk1 Fiesta. They are looking for marshalls for the event, it would serve as a good introduction to the sport of road rallies for people without the need to be up till six in the morning. Details at http://www.bolton-le-moorscarclub.co.uk/

Probably been posted already so apologies in advance if it has but I have been sent this earlier today. May be of interest to most on here if we could end up with more tax exempt OSF about. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/historiccartax/

I've e-mailed them off to you now. I'll have a word with my navigator, and see if I can get some of the test diagrams of her for it for you. As I was wanting to have a look at some of them again myself anyway.
-
The Berwick Motor Club site seems to have been off line for a while now. I have the regs and final instructions etc. the 2006 event which I can e-mail to you if you want them (except the results as I didnt have a very good day on that one). 2007 regs aren't out for it yet. Althought I should have regs somewhere for the Johnston Trophy which is also run by Berwick motor club and has tests running during the day and is then followed by a more historic type road rally in the evening/night. It is running on Jan 6th though so a bit short notice and I am sure it has a full entry.

Escort Ghia 4-door 4th overall at Pembrey Stages
doubleg replied to doubleg's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Forgot to add, that apparently the driver of the M3 which finished 3rd was told by his service crew that it ws this car nehind him on the event as it drove past and his response was " fook off, that !!! " -
Curtis, the Berwick Classic in the very north of England (or very south of Scotland depending in your viewpoint) runs a test based historic rally which runs to the same kind of regs as the Rally of the Tests rather than as a historic stage rally. Very popular with people coming over from Scandinavia and France etc. to do it.
