  1. For sale series two 1600E Cortina a good solid car was put on the road last year after 25 years dry stored but then taken off again for a engine rebuild. Price without engine and gearbox for anyone who wants to fit a Zetec rack and pinion steering etc £4950 A few bits of trim missing and the seats need to go back in as I swapped the series one set it had fitted for the correct series two type in very good condition. It is an original Mink Blue car but the repaint was poor so will need doing again , all welding has been done and no rust coming through but would not suit someone looking for perfection as it is Can supply non matching number engine and gearbox for £1500 it is in bits at the moment fresh re bore to 1650 stage 2 head , Piper Cam, all parts to rebuild new timing chain oil pump etc. Parts alone cost me £1100 I am based in Laindon Essex
  2. How would you get out of the car at a show with people watching on I would need a pre dug tunnel to park over and a hatch in the floor
  3. Yes but still nice to drive the GTR is now also a old car but can still manage 0 to 60 of 3.7 seconds on road tyres with me driving, and ran a quarter mile of 11.7 even though I missed a gear and rolled the last few yards. You can see how 4wd helps pull away , a FD RX7 in the other lane that looks like it has parked there.
  4. Yes thats the car was parked away from both Cortina clubs in the other field No not done Battlesbridge yet only to buy parts the only other show I did was at Ingatestone Hall . Safe with people finding the cars two of them are not at home but in a well guarded workshop .
  5. I did my apprenticeship in the late 70s early 80s with WH Perry a Ford dealer in Hadleigh Essex they sold a couple of modified MK2 Granada's 2.8 Twin turbo's that got lost in time http://www.ford-granadaguild.org.uk/docs/broadspeed-turbo-granada.pdf
  6. They were a Ford Dealer in Luton that did a bit of modifying of old Fords like the 1600e powered by a Lotus engine https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archive/article/october-1969/48/3-litre-special-capri
  7. I also have the Nasty Nissan you can see poking out of the garage I tuned the engine in the Blue Cortina and put in a 2000e gearbox so they will not both feel the same to drive
  8. After a few years away from Cortina MK2s I have ended up with two of them both 1600Es the Saluki Bronze car is now back on the road after 26 years with a lot of help from my body shop mate who did the metal work in his garage we kept the dented wing as it was the original . The second Blue car was a unfinished project and needed much more work but is there now all but for a re paint and the engine needs putting back together has a fast road cam stage two head light weight flywheel for a Lotus 1650cc
  9. My old Capri White Heat I paid £500 for it in bits and still in that Mauve color I had it painted White again, sold it on in the mid 80s by then it had become as fashionable as a pair of flared trousers. If I had it now I would put it back to standard as it was a 3000 GT XLR not many of them made and the Dealer at Luton had modified it slightly Lumo cars fetch good money now like the Broadspeed of their day
  10. After a nice Mk 2 Cortina 1600E or GT, or a series one super must be 4 door with GT interior and engine
  11. The late 70s were not a good time to be a future classic the A13 was wider and the police had to follow you in their car for a set distance to get a speed reading . Police cars of the time were mini vans the odd escort Mk 2 and a Rover 3500 Not many stopped for the minis Southend police did do a very good job though and if anyone did get a fine they deserved it , I was let off a fair bit and fined twice The seafront was used like a circuit late at night and people would stop the traffic in all directions to watch Guess if you look at all the road changes in the area since they were all put in place to stop this Much better now days with a lot more track access I have been to Brands Hatch many times Would pop along but I have a R32GTR at the moment could always park at the back I guess as it would be good to see your cars
  12. Hello all I am thinking of getting back into a Cortina Mk 2 again my first car was a series one 4 door 1600GT but I crashed it boot over bonnet on the A13 Southend to Leigh section It did get rebuilt by me but using a series 2 1300 auto shell £30 from Kirbys the breakers yard,I did not use the ID for the GT I still have the VIN plate number plates and log books safe in a box Lol Next was a Granada 3.0 GXL which was hit up the back while going to work in the snow by a mk 5 Cortina The Cortina fell to bits but I was able to continue to work but the Granada was a total loss on the insurance for the third time in its life as it also had two under bonnet fires before I brought it A few months with a Red 1300 GT Escort which I did not like lucky for me my mum wanted it and she drove it for quite a few years Next was a Yellow Cortina Mk 3 1.6 GT not sure of the thinking behind Ford making this as 2.0 GXL was a faster car This one ended when the number 1 bus pulled out on me I got past but he pushed me into another car instead of stopping Nice ! Then I had a 3.0 Capri mk 3 with big valve heads and hepolite pistons that flew and also did not get crashed but sold on to someone I worked with After that a 1600 GT Mk 3 Capri the idea was to save fuel, I also put origanal Dunlop wheels on it by getting the rear half shaft diameters reduced (Made it hard to aline the rear drums) I also sold this car on
