Selling my 1978 Ford Escort Mk2 in Ford Modena green. Car has been largely stripped and rebuilt over the last 2 years and now looks great and drives very nicely. Engine is a 711M block 1.6 GT-Specification Ford Crossflow engine with refurbished twin-choke DGAV carburettor. Block has been rebored, new pistons/rings/all bearings, new lightened flywheel and new clutch - no leaks! All new gaskets and seals throughout. Head work included a light porting and unleaded inserts, with new guides, springs, seals, etc. Ashley exhaust fitted, with 4-branch tubular manifold and free-flow silencer. Capri front struts and new rear dampers fitted. All suspension and steering bushes have just been replaced, along with new track-rod joints. Front calipers and rear drums have been refurbished and new pads/shoes fitted. Wheels are freshly refurbished Ford 4-spoke RS alloys. Bodywork is excellent, inner wings have been replaced and floor pan is original, solid and rust free. RS2000 front valence and rear spoiler adds to the looks. Interior is now Escort Ghia velour, in great condition. New carpets, with extra insulation and a new headlining, make her a pleasure to be in. Recent MOT passed with no advisories. A friend is looking for 'authentic' tyes for his Mk1 Consul and is looking for a set of whitewall crossplys. Any recommendations for where to get some?

On a sales topic, is there a way of working out if I'm asking a reasonable price for my Mk2? If there is anyone knowledgeable near Fleet/Camberley, I'm more than happy to buy you a beer or 2 in exchange for some sage advice

My mk2 Escort came with a hard to start and rough running engine. The seller made all sorts of spec promises - big-valve head, steel crank, etc. In the end, turns out is is all standard, except for a 264 cam and pistons with broken rings and lands. I've got a good set of replacement pistons and the crank is perfect, so not all bad news. However, the cam will be too high-lift for the standard piston cutouts, so I'm after something that will get me back on the road. If it is a fast-road or similar cam, then that would be a bonus!
