Forgive my ignorance...... Duratec related
cossie matt replied to sambo's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Go and have a look at this site www.cncheads.co.uk . Click on the "products" title and scroll down the engine cylinder heads list . By clicking on the "go" button in the far right column you will see the flow charts for each head . You will see a big valve YB head which flows more air than the duratecs can manage . Not cheap at £1250 but cabable of producing 300+bhp never the less Yea it's a good site but pretty narrow minded if you use it as a benchmark for every head out there. SBD's new engine and a couple more customer engines have all done over 300bhp and 195lbft so they must be flowing more air than CNC's heads. I'm not going to get into a huge debate but we've just got to be open minded and not get hung up on minor specifics. Each engine is only as good as the way it has been put together. You could have the best 4 pot in the world but if it's been put together and set up poorly it'll produce poor power -

Thats fine mate, but you cant build a top spec YB from new for any less either I know I've done it!! Every choice has it's advantages and disadvantages, yes the YB CAN go in on a WXCM but there are aspects of a Duratec installation which are cheaper than a YB install too. -

Well for starters Matts 300bhp duratec engine install would cost twice the price of his old atmo cossie install by the time it's driving if you built them both side by side . Also dyno runs don't mean much it's the clock that counts . Matt's old atmo cossie hit 11.8 secs from 0-100mph at brunters with 75bhp less than his new duratecs got now . We'll see how much faster the 75bhp at the "peak" rpm makes his escort . Get a Track n Road rolling road proven 250bhp duratec up against my 215bhp atmo cossie and i'll push it up the road no problem !!!!!!!! Gaz firstly I accept your challenge!!! And I think as someone who has done the said swap I am the one best to say how much it actually cost. Some of what you have said is utter tripe mate, I'm sorry but you are being very narrow minded. The YB N/A is a great engine but it's old in design and it was always meant to be a turbo engine so the quote about the head flowing more air is rubbish. The YB won't run as a N/A very well at all without mods so that's one thing to consider. Like it or not the Duratec has one of the best designed cylinder heads out there and flows far better than most YB heads. Also as it is almost a Square engine (bore the same as stroke as in the XE) it is far better equipped to produce better torque and the dyno figures prove it. My new engine pisses over my YB EVERYWHERE!!! FACT and it's not just peak figures. My install hasn't cost much at all, definitley no more than my YB cost, Gaz I know you have had your fair share of probs installing your YB too so I know how much it has cost, the only real costs getting my engine in was a bellhousing £300ish and an engine mount kit £50 And before you say there you go £300 on a bellhousing, I had to get my RS one modified to take a cossie starter which cost £200 anyway when I put the YB in. The reality is if you want a decent spec engine of any type installed, with Dry sump, Aeroquip, Pukka Manifold etc it's gonna cost about the same. -
How about 300bhp Gaz Beater Only joking mate I'm so looking forward to some track time with you boys this year
-
I love this pic Anyway, after 24 pages I thought I'd see what was going on. I can't wait to try my new engine, I loved my Cossie but I very much doubt that an extra 75bhp and 50blft Torque will make my car slower, the torque will help massively out of the corners and it just pulls like a train all the way through the rev range I'm very excited
-
Hmmm what should i do? Go aspirated or stay with turbo?
cossie matt replied to kevmk2's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
That looks lovely mate, I'd say do it (I would) but I also know that you would have to spend a lot more than just the price of the engine to make it FAST round a track. As you said, your ratio's would be all wrong on a T5 and the dry sump installation would still cost a pretty penny even though you have the pan and pump. You have a great base to start it's just the extra cost to make the N/A work properly. Your call mate but in my opinion it's what your beautiful car deserves -
Thanks for all the kind comments guys Watch out for the new thread on the install Matt

Have a look at this one too to get the juices flowing Matt

You def won't be the first I'll give you a tip, just lift off a little as you go over the start line and you should get away with it Mine is only just over the limit at 9000 over the line, I think your carbs will be a little quieter than my T/B's so go for it Nice one mate, just a shame it's sold out, I'd have loved to come along, would have been an orchestra!!! Matt -
Love the pics mate, It doesn't feel like it's lifting when I'm in the car!!! I'm not a nutter as someone said I just like driving fast
-
I had a great day, was nice that is was a scorcher instead of raining!!! Would have liked a bit of competition on track, someone to chase but it was still fun, thought everyone was still following the pace car Matt

Good to see you Tim Had to dash off as we went to Greystoke, very muddy. Went to Ae and Kershope Sunday and Pundershaw Monday but there was only about 35-40 cars left monday, Eassons Throttle linkage broke 400yds from the finish line at Croft and dropped to 3rd after leading most of the Rally, they were gutted. A mate of mine knows the co driver and they didn't speak the whole way back to service they were so gutted. Brilliant event, I wanna do it!!!!!!! Matt
