Really, please share the name of this insurance company and i will be banging on their door for next years policy. My Insurance valuation is shy to a sum of £3000, YES THREE THOUSAND POUNDS for the agreed value of my car. It all relies on YOU GUYS getting the base value correct. However Simon W is going to try and help my cause (good man ) This topic is popping up all over the internet by the way Yes and we've addressed it on every forum we've seen it on. Those stories were from two different insurance companies. I've heard other stories and experienced similar myself from other companies again. Sorry to hear about your own insurance, but I seriously doubt any insurance company uses a magazine price guide to construct their pay out prices. They would look at the market and what other cars like that are going for. Guidelines are for buyers/sellers not insurance companies and again I doubt a buyer is now planning on paying now more than £X for a car. So what companies was it then, send via pm if you don't want to post here. If you seriously doubt that the insurance companies don't look to you and other car mags for guidance then you are sadly mistaken ! Thats what the insurance company told me on the phone when i asked her how they came to the value for my car. So please please please make sure that the values really do reflect current prices. Oh and i know this will be real easy to do for escorts since they are widely available in almost any configuration, pinto/xlfow/cossie power etc for example. You try getting an proper evaluation on a modified Anglia Estate... esp one that as extremely rare parts fitted. There are only about 100 left, not many are modified so they have nothing really to go on. Craig

you have got the wrong clutch fitted. xflow by any chance ? i had this years ago. some dummy mechanic friend at the time sold and fitted a xflow out of a mk3 / mk4 cortina into my mk1 escort with the type 2 integral xflow bellhousing gearbox, after that it always had a weird clicking noise and if you jacked the rear of the car up in neutral with the engine running the rear wheels would turn ! Found the problem when i next changed the engine, were ten a penny then. Good job i did, flywheel bolt heads were about half as thick as they should have been !!!!!

Ok Here is something that you might find on... Old wives tale etc etc Cola Does it clean metal, remove rust, shine up that old penny etc Well i think it works on a penny, so i thought i might try it on something else a bit bigger. I had already tried soaking an old rusty nut in vinegar for a week to see if it would clean it up. It didn't work at all, not in the slightest. It was asda's finest 23p a bottle as far as i can remember. So back to the Cola test. Some Pics to explain. Take one rusty flywheel One rusty nut (previously tried to vinegar it) One plastic box Put the flywheel in the box, face down on the dowels to keep it off the bottom and allow the Cola to do it's trick. Some of Adli's finest Cola 39p each ! Poured in 2 bottles = 4 litres Look at the fizz ! While i was watching the "fizz" i wondered if the Cola would clean off oil and general "gunge" So i throw these chaps in. I then left the thing alone for 48 hours... Here it is after 48 hours. Fizz has long since stopped. Got rid of the Cola and was left with a box of shiney bits Well not really... The Cola did nothing at all... So this myth as they would say on Mythbusters is......

It will work, but not for long. The teeth on your pre engaged flywheel will be ruined by the teeth on the inertia starter motor... Advice, get the correct part for the car. You need a pre engaged starter motor if you have the solenoid on the side. escort tec, gs escorts , your local motorfactors etc etc etc or get your reconditioned

I'm getting over on another forum for saying the ace is unnecessarily stirring up a hornets nest. Think of it this way. If the ace did not ask for clarification regarding the points system and modification of the monocoque then some old biddy in an office would not have been forced to clarify the rules. DVLA/VOSA/whoever didn't know themselves until the ace asked for clarification ! I mean come on, fitting a larger tunnel is not the same as radically rebuilding the monocoque is it ? But now that the ace have asked for clarification it has been decided that it is the same. Which in most peoples opinion is wrong. I agree there are some seriously badly modified heaps of rubbish out there and yes these should be tested in some way but it's the same old story the minority spoil it for everybody else Craig
