I can not see a breather pipe anywhere. is that what my problem is?

Up to the top for the first time the other day, and now it reeks of fumes. I like the smell of petrol at the best of times, but its just too much!! Is this another joy of owning an Old Ford or does the problem run further i wonder?? Hmmmm answers on a post card please.....
