Was thinking more along the lines of a racing type cap rather than factory. It just avoids having to get it sprayed. Will keep my eyes peeled for an OE tho, cheers mate

I'm looking to replace my fuel cap with a crome or aluminuim one. Just wondering if anyone knows what diameter fits the Mk 1 Escy. I would measure it myself but its sealed up since i've the ralloy tank . Any ideas where to buy? I've looked on ebay but they're mostly stick-on muck that boy racer micra drivers love so much. Cheers

What a noise!! Sounds like it'd suck a golfball thru a garden hose!! Best of luck with it -
Great pics mate. Was a good turnout too considering the weather. To be honest i had second thoughts when i saw the rain & gale force winds and the thoughts of a 100mile drive in it... Glad i went tho, was a great day out. Car of the day for me had to be the green mk1 Mex, what a minter!

Has anyone seen the weather forecast for Sunday...? Not looking too good- Heavy showers in the morning becoming more persistent in the afternoon Hope it doesn't put too many off coming down. As Billy Connolly said theres no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes

OSF rally cars did it for me back when i was an impresionable young lad! The sight and sound of them on proper tarmac stages with armfuls of opposite lock.... I havent quite been the same since

Bit of a strange combo alright! Engines out of a fiat 131, bored out to 2.2, all steel bottom end as standard, is chassis mounted and moved back bout 3/400mm. Putting out around 160-170hp at the moment but has been dyno'd at 185hp. She's a bubble arched, LHD, big tunnels, big brakes, caged etc too. Theres a full spec list and photos in Readers Rides... I'm not too far from Trim so Athlone is a great excuse for a drive!

Count me in! Gilli

I'm definately on for the Athlone meet! Will be there in my (fiat powered) mk1 escy, have told a few other lads and they'll try to get down there in a mint mk2 escy and a mk3 cortina. Will see ye all there, Gilli

Mk1 escort with Fiat twin cam
Gilli replied to Gilli's topic in READERS RIDES (PAST & PRESENT) PICTURES, BROCHURES & ARCHIVES
I've been told it was on the dyno at 185hp, needs a bit of tweeking and Webbers need tuning at the moment so its somewhere round the 160hp mark. Bottom end is strong alright, apparently they take 400hp+ without any mods.... -

Cheers mate, handles really well, i know a lot of people talk rubbish bout 50:50 weight distribution but i reakon it makes a huge difference. Really pivots under your arse, drifts nicely but still has that traditional escort feel, it just amplifies it! -

Yeah i'll bring it to a few alright, i'll be at the meet on March 4th in Athlone for definite and i'll get to as many as possible throughout the year. They'll be great excuses for a drive... Hope to see you at them -
I'm running a Fiat twink in my Mk1 Escy, its chassis mounted, so the sump is quite low. As regards it being a tall engine i'm using Webber downdraught carbs and have room to spare. Gearbox is a wide-boy though, massive tunnel in mine to fit. In my opinion they're a great engine, loves revs and heaps of torque low down and sounds deadly. They all tend to weep a small bit of oil but the bottom end is bullet proof.

Mk1 escort with Fiat twin cam

Forgot to write down the specs: 1973 mk1 escort, started life as a 1300GT, its LHD (shell came from the Canaries), bubble arched, has a Fiat twin cam bored out to 2.2, twin Webber 44 idf carbs, engine has been chassis mounted and moved back 350-400mm,5spd Fiat box, Willwood 4pots up front, drums on an english axle on leaf springs with a LSD and anti-tramp bars on the back, adjustable dampers all round, 15inch Compomotives, 6 point cage which is also tied into the front strut tops, firewalled, Sparco Evo seat and wheel, Ralloy tank, de-bumpered(for now- what you think?), no carpets, is undersealed, and 4 Cibies are about to go on with Prepfab brackets. It needs a bit of tidying up and that sort of thing but i'll rub it off a few ditches in the mean time! -

Its about 350-400mm further back than it was. Whole new bulkhead and tunnel... Some say i should put it back in a Fiat where it belongs
