  1. arse dyno always works bets fr me! RR is great for setting a car up with carbs etc, but if you run management and can live map, then its better to map on the fly IMO. its more representative of the actual use the car gets. anyway - the old pinto is a great torquey lump, ideal for pottering around with or for doing historic rallying on a budget. BHP figures are for journeymen who cant prove themselves on the tracks or stages - oh and for those with small genitalia...
  2. Satin black is defo best IMO.
  3. http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=14495 if this is any good to you, feel free to use it.
  4. http://www.tonylawexhausts.co.uk/2261/frames.php many of the rallying fraternity use Tony Law and his stuff is reported to be excellent.
  5. Crikey, they don't half run alot of events in that calender! do you have to compete in all of them?
  6. as an erst while scoob and evo owner i am uniquely positioned to add some more to this debate. i have to say the evo 5 i had was very nicely tuned to 350bhp and went like an absolute rocket. easily the most tractable car i have ever owned. however the speed becomes aneathitised due to the other-worldly handling. tbh you found yourself driving it too quick for the public roads. i now have a 200sx as my day car and its more fun than the evo and plenty quick. i cant comment on BIG power escorts, but i can imagine how they would compare to the likes of the evo and impreza, given the experience i have had with tuned pinto/x-flow engined examples.
  7. i kinda agree with both arguements, which is why i thought it would be of interest to see what people thought on here. my general conclusion is that grp 1 spec is a bit pants , and the car will benefit hugely from this resto. it needed more work than was initially apparent.
  8. lol - bit late for that now Nick, but cheers! i fancy doing a mk2 sometime, with big power and arches...

    o yes

    well done.
  10. great comments - all very interesting.
  11. there is nothing wrong with the mk3 escort, and it has an old skool appeal to it imo. the difference between the mk3 escort and the mk1 fiesta will always be this: the mk3 escort killed off the rwd escorts. the mk1 fiesta was a whole new idea. the mk3 will always be vilified by many as the car that knocked one of the all time fave drivers cars of its perch.
  12. how is he getting on with it? has he got someone doing the work for him? saw a chevette in gartrac!
  13. thanks guys - see there are a few votes already, wow that did not take long! i was going to build it to group 1 spec to begin with, but the durability of the thing as a rally car concerned me. the group 1 gear is just glorified road going equipment. i have found some pretty suspect (alarming) engineering whilst the resto has been going ahead too! lots of odd metric bolts etc and shagged components. it was a this point i felt that the correct parts, would keep the car in good fettle. its goin to be driven hard, so it ought to have the group 4 gear on it imo. Tim - do you ever see Steve Price?
  14. Okay, i am perfectly happy with what i have set out to do and so far achieved with the building of my rally car and so far everyone has been positive about the progress and future end product. Got a couple of questions though, as i know there are differing opinions as to what should and should not happen to old skool fords, especially those with history. my car is an ex-Haynes of maidstone car, built for the 1974 Tour Of Britain as a group 1 machine. it was likely used by John Taylor and the other Haynes cohorts during its time at Haynes. i am turning it onto a group 4 rally car, in which i will compete in historic rallys. some may argue that this is taking away the originality of the car, but i think its just another interesting part of its life. it was latterly a road car, used for shows etc, but not in the guise of an out and out competition car. i think it is better for it to see competition again even if that is in a different level of preperation, as opposed to gathering dust in a garage and being something of an "ornament". Thus i ask for you to contribute to my poll and for you to support your decision in reply to this thread. i look forward to your views! the thread with the restoration is here. http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=14495 a pic here, for you to see what it looks like when not in bits! thanks, Weave

  16. i have added my two penneth.
  17. Its a bastard, but at leat you are ok and te car is repairable. People have monster shunts in escorts - rallying -and pull them out again. i know the feeling, you just want it sorted ASAP!
  18. LOL! no its just the flash i feel! Cats are a recurring theme - we love them. here is an italian cat at a place we stayed inTuscany me in Monte Carlo on the same holiday Anna in Monte Carlo - really only posted the last pic to provoke some ownage for the jap motors i have had!
  19. Here is my Girl Anna, next to my old evo 5, before i got my Rs2000 Taken last night with Rosie the cat.
  20. John Barker is the guy thats had it built -its a beats thats for sure. i have no pics sadly.
  21. Lol - i am glad i have a genuine one! so 4k odd made, must be quite a few that have passed on since then. reckon there must be evn less right hookers. wonder how many of them were RHD?
  22. and how many left do you reckon?
  23. again, another potentially really good video, ruined by shite music. all you need to hear is the engine and tyre squeal.
