Team Blitz

I co-drove with David Hobbs in a 24-Hour endurance race. Interviewed Graham Nash (CSN&Y), John Kaye (Steppenwolf), Julie Haggerty (the main actress in "Airplane!"). Met Ronald Reagan (shook hands), Don Prudhomme (drag racer), Brian Redman (F1 & Can-Am), John Glenn (first US astronaut to orbit earth), Carroll Shelby, Phil Hill (F1 world champion), Dan Gurney (racer), Goldberg (wrestler), Ted Nugent (rock & roller), Sir Jackie Stewart, and Jim Wangers (inventor of the Pontiac GTO). Oh! Most Capri related of all: Had the high honor to meet and become friends with Michael Kranefuss, who ran Ford Racing worldwide. He started with the Capri werkes programme, way way back in Cologne.

I'm soooo stressed to see the Edsel RS2600 in print. Hope my issue arrives soon! We got up to a cement plant in the wee hours to shoot that. Jon had the mere 400lbs of gear the airline would allow him to hump onboard. The RS was cranky until it warmed up (equipped as a summer beast with no choke blades). No registration plates, so it was a run from Johnny Law on top of the whole circus. I was meeting Bryn for the first time. And thinking, "Right, don't wreck this puppy showing off." (They had told me horror stories of other shoots....) The Capri is irreplaceable. It's a gift from Henry Ford II (the LeMans chairman of Ford!!!) to his son Edsel II (who is on the Board of Ford today). I think Bryn may of made contact, not sure. The pic Simon has teased here, is well, stunning to me. Jon didn't have everything he'd have back in the UK on a domestic shoot. To do this kind of work is artistry. Once more, CF has outdone itself. Whoah! Just got the Dec issue in the mail! I am staggered with the content, 14 pages of North American coverage!! 4 Pages on the Capri Club North America Swarm, 4 on Team Blitz Capri Parts, and 6 on the Rally V6 Mk1 which won 3 championships in Canada. Bryn is a master wordsmith, able to convey things in a easy and breezy way that clips you along. But also very content-rich and technically accurate. Jon's photos are magnificent. How he could make that tatty rally beast look so sparkling is magician's work. He was extremely understanding and accomodating in making the visit arrangements. These guys represent Classic Ford at its finest. Thanks to management for sending them and publishing them. It's been a while since I've read CF, and I'm now a subscriber. I'm really glad Team Blitz ran an advert in the last couple issues too, because these issues will be collectible with US Capri fans. You have permanent friends here in the US, mates. Hahaha, The DAVE BORG SQUARED descends upon my helpless shell of a Capri nutter. I fancy a trip back soon, both to Old Blighty and to Zee Vaterland. You guys show me round proper, hear?
