  1. The trouble is we don't exactly know what will happen. If we sit and wait it could be too late to do anything. It does look like ANY modifications to historic vehicles will mean they WILL lose their historic status and have to go for BIVA testing. Orange side indicators, correctly marked windscreens as well as the dreaded Q plates don't sound that appealing to me so I'm sending the letter to the MP's, MEP's. There is a draft on the ACE website http://www.the-ace.org.uk/armageddon/ They also have a chat forum http://www.the-ace.org.uk/chat_with_ace/ Plus a 40 odd page discussion on the rods and sods forum http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/topic/ ... ions-64112 http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/new ... proposals/
  2. Which is what a lot of us don't want.. The Tax part doesn't bother me but I'd rather keep the identity of the car on it like the reg and black silver number plates. If it goes Q plate then number plates will have to be reflective yellow and white. Maybe not so noticeable on a late MK 4 or 5 cortina but what about earler models??
  3. get some studs at the breakers yard off a m o n d e o or focus. Thats what I put on my car. Thats one of the only things ford didn't change!!
  4. Thanks for that! I was a little unhappy with the performance but even more unhappy with the lady in Stratford who drove into my car on the A Frame behind the van. Luckily the damage is minor but it will need the door and wing repaired. She told me she was letting the van in but not the car - that wasn't going to be easy with the car attached to the van!! Oh no!! Classic case of her not paying attention and what is it with people when they see an old car that they feel the need to pull out in front of it? I'm forever jumping on the brakes because some tw*t decided to jump in front. Hope you get it sorted soon, without too much aggro. I understand about the time on the track but it looked damn quick to me
  5. First time I'd been for a few years. Couldn't have wished for better weather. Great turn out of OSF's too and good to see a a few of them in anger up the strip too. Got there late saturday afternoon, decided to stay for a few beers and all of sunday.
  6. Toby. I see your car in action at the Hot Rod Drags. I didn't get a chance to say hello/introduce myself and have a proper nose at your lovely MK1. But here's a pic and a vid for ya if you want it. All the best Carl
  7. Check the ign light works before you start the car. If it don't light up the alternator wont charge the battery
  8. Chassis mount is the way to go. done it to my MK1 cortina. No difference in vibration compared when bolted to the crossmember on MK1/MK2 escorts and cortinas. MK3/4/5 cortinas have bushes fixing the crossmember to the chassis so will be a little worse on those but that's about it.
  9. Yeah I know it's the gears in the box . Just one of them things to do but not top of the list. When it says 50 I'm doing 40 etc. Just have to remember that when I get back into a car with an accurate speedo.
  10. Quite right Bortaf. The speedo I have on my mk1 cortina is screw on and the cable is for push on (from a MK3/4/5 cortina) from my type 9 (sierra) gearbox. I just pushed it on. It doesn't click on but it stays on due to the way the cable is routed. I've done about 3k miles and it hasn't dropped off yet! Works a treat apart it reads about 20% faster than what i'm actually doing!.
  11. My first one at Box Hill yesterday, took the Cortina. Got there late (1.30) due to crap traffic on the M25 + mates ford F100 van playing up and eventually breaking down in the car park when we got there (AA were called to get him home). Def try and get there earlier next time. Great place, great meet.
  12. A lot of it depends who's on the gate letting the cars in. I've been on other car nights where cars should have been in were not allowed and ones that shouldn't were. Pot luck really. I'll be there.
  13. Ta for that Jo. I was looking for it but not in the right area. I'll probably go down tho. Cheers Carl
  14. Is it on tonight? Anyone going? Carl
  15. Welcome to OSF mate.
