With all the thefts over the last year I have come to the conclusion that it's best to insure my new purchase from day !, I would never normally bother insuring a project, BUT never before has a shell of an old ford been so stealable I would be up shit creak without a paddle if something happened and I still had to pay for the bloody thing... So that said, i want to insure the car while it's being built, now I remember before reading about an insurance you can get on a car thats 'laid up' ie not including road risks, I do have motor trade insurance that I can put the car on, but don't ever want to be in the position of having to try and convince them that a 35 year old escort project was worth £x thousands of pounds, know what I mean, would rather pay out a few extra quid and get it with someone who knows what it is and value. So, on that note, any one have any info or could point me in right direction? cheers

WILL be back, deal done, collectiing Monday, look like what it is, an old neglected escort, BUT is one of the most solid escorts I'v ever seen, original sills, original wheel wells, original strut tops, car has never been welded apart from 2 mot patches to hold bottom of wings onto floor where the wing tabs rotted. it comes with an excellent pair of used mex wings, new rally style front panel with slam panel. Can't wait to get back into an old escort, this is gonna be a long but 'proper job' car.....possibly cossie i'll sort a project thread out when I get some pics next week

Going to look at a mk1 2dr escy later, supposedly had hardly any welding, had rotten wings but comes with a pair of mex wings with new front panel etc, not cheap,, but if it's a good solid one worth every penny. Been out of the old fords for last few years with setting up a new business doing 75+ hours a week, so am hoping it's a good one and a deal is done, I play with scrap cars all day, but been itching to get back into playing with another old escort... watch this space

Not for a long time, I been told by folk in the know that alloy, copper, bras etc will stay about what it is now for a good few years, Last year when prices went sky high on everything was same as banks problems, all artificially pushed up beyond it's true worth, so now we are back floating about at normal prices. The processor I sell my cats to reckons cats won't go back up to anywhere near what they were scrapping at, and will take 2/3 years to go up to a decent figure, I was getting £72 for a full original cat, for a big un up to £120 now on £22 for a full original, so you can see the drop on that. Scrap has'nt got the money in it it had last year, but on the other hand there's not every man and their dog weighing in now, can go into yard straight onto bridge and out, last summer it was takig 30-40 mins queing to get on and off bridge.

2 weeks ago scrap cars were at £15 a ton!!!!!! gone up a few quid now again, but not a lot. Been getting up to £200 a ton, goes to show what a bit of ecenomic un-rest can do. Will be paying for people to take away scrap cars again soon.

Not meaning to sound harsh, and I bet the kid feels gutted, BUT who in their right mind would expect a top notch complete bodykit fitted to top standards with a top respray for what £350??????? Did he not realise this??? Also I'm sure that nissan is worth a good few grand, so why the hell would you pay peanuts on trying to do so much, for the amount of labour any bodywork requires I'm surprised he got as much done as he did for the few hundred he paid. YOU ONLY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, and in relation to anysort of bodywork this is more true than ever.

Here's a totally mad idea, why don't we only let folk in who can meet high financial and/or educational criteria??? like the ausssies do, if you are no benefit to us then stay the fook where you are!!!!
