  1. Umm.. I don't really know what makes up a Capri's suspension . I have spax adjustable rear shocks, so maybe like, stock shock absorbers? And I have coilover front struts with rollertop mounts so I think maybe normal struts? Then I can just uprate the springs if I need I guess. Sorry Tony I don't really know what I need! I'm sure the car would make an awesome track weapon but it shakes me bum to bits
  2. Got any suspension bits? Mine rides a bit hard, and if I sell the uprated bits I might make a bit of money. Still thinking about it though. '72 pre-facelift.
  3. Just got my car back from my local garage/electricians, they've had to fix, in no particular order: n/s/f indicator o/s/f headlight wipers washer jets horn main beam + flash on indicator stalk speedo dash light ignition + handbrake warning lights bonnet release cable handbrake adjusted up. All on a car that was sold to me with 12 months MOT put on it on Feb 12th Got it all done for £165 which I didn't think was too bad tho. Still need to address the steering and the camber - for some reason it looks like the wheels lean out at the top and in at the bottom? It tramlines like anything and the steering springs back to centre almost aggressively! Plus the suspension makes some very scary noises... But now I can drive it in the dark and in the wet and I love it!
  4. Bournemouth mate. I've got the haynes for 1300 and 1600 OHV capri on order right now, so that should gover the lights aetc, but my car has had a front coilover and roller top mount conversion (WTF are roller top mounts?), rear adjustable shockers and single leafs, 260mm front disc kit with green stuff pads, 2 litre pinto and 5 speed box with a bigger radiator, electric ignition, alternation conv, and a kenlowe fan sat infront of the rad, so I'm not sure how much help it will be with that lot! I'm guessing I'll need another one for a pinto engined car as well. If you don't mind sending some over, for any car under the sun, that would be ace and I will sort you a tenner for postage? Either that or take a trip up sometime, although you mgiht have me there for an afternoon asking constant questions about the car! Lot's of stuff to sort on the car. The ride is very harsh with that lot and not really suited to the bumpy roads around here and makes some damn scary noises - not sure if it should
  5. No, apparently they all live in Bridlington It's south of London so in excess of 250 miles each way for you. i dont mind doing that milage, its just the cost of the fuel that puts me off. If you do it mate I will too and get a pic of our cars together
  6. Hanyes manual and the AA book on order. Are there any other workshop manuals or just the haynes? I have Kin henson's book on restoration but that's not really aimed at this kind of thing.
  7. OK, right, I feel a complete pleb asking this - but I've never been around old cars before, and my new capri is actually the first car I have owned myself. I've never done a basic mechanics course or anything like that, although I think it would be a good idea. So... whats the correct way to check the oil and water, and top up if necessary? The problem is that all our family cars are 05 reg or newer, so they're all dealer serviced! There you go, anyway
  8. I think that's a good idea Tony, gonna get it to the garage up the road for a checkover in the week. For all it's faults I love it to pieces, best drive of my life coming back in the sunshine. one thing I do need explaining to me: What do some of the switches do? Top one has what looking like a rectangle with some lines across it, then below that some kind of toggle switch which is either broken or only toggles one way, then below that a switch with a picture of a speedo, and then below that the wipers.
  9. The MOT was done and it passed, I just checked on the database. I'm assuming I stil need to certificate, but that's easy to get, I think most places will issue replacements. The other thing needs doing on the car is the handbrake adjusting - it was an advisory on the last MOT and it won't hold the car on my steep drive, I have to leave it in gear and chock it. How is this best adjusted? Cheers
  10. Just had a magnificent drive home in the sunshine in the new car, grinning like a loon Just got home though, and there are a couple of things not working on the car which I'm a bit miffed about. I've never looked under the bonnet of a mk1 capri before so any help with these woul be amazing, as detailed as possible please! 1. most urgent, the n/s door won't lock. It opens and closes on the botton, but when I put the key in, it turns til it meets resistance, but no click and it jsut doesn't lock. it doesnt help that the tops have come off the push down bits on the doors, but I tried locking it with those and no good, again it just goes down but doesnt lock. 2. the n/s/f indicator isn't working. Have checked the bulb and it looks fine, any ideas? 3. The o/s/f headlight works on sidelight only, can't get main beams on it. Apparently it has a brand new 12 months MOT on it from last week, but the cert isn't in the documentation with the car, and these problems al being things that are necessary for a car to pass are all making me a bit uneasy. Any hints to help me get it roadworthy and secure please? Remember I'm new to all this! The car does look amazing tho, will get some pics up. And i pulls like a train in 2nd and 3rd
  11. Thinking about wheel choice for a mk1 capri, with coilover conversion at the front, and a mk3 wider axle on the rear. What offset wheels should I look for? 7x 13 revolights are ET-7, as are 7x13 superlights. Not really sure what this means. RS 4 spokes are ET 6 6x13 minilights are ET 13. I guess with the wider axle I need the wheels to be inboard as much as possible to not hit the arches? Not really sure. I don't really know what I want! Confused
  12. Was thinking about it, but he was 6"+ and he's a fireman!! i would have diffenatly butted the barstard even if he shoed me after at lest i would have broke his fooking noes the good for nuffin streak of piss anyway you must clame compensation i got 6k for a tesco lory up the arse of my taxi 2 years ago and i got my self some proper medication a mk1 escort To be honest that's a really shitty attitude. Everyone makes mistakes. Why the need to get out and hit someone? I've also had someone run into the back of me, and I got out, made sure they were ok, they were apologetic and everything was fine. No need to get violent just be glad it's only metal and that no one was hurt.
  13. HIC best price was £2000 TPFT Lancaster wouldn't give me a price. It's beacuse im under 21 with no no claims, and it's quite a highly modified car. the second best fully comp quote for me was £2600... go figure.
  14. Got a load of thoughts running around right now Tony! There's a mk1 for sale on pistonheads running 7x13 minilights that looks ace. But then... do I go silver? or chrome? Or black with the silver rim? Or I could go with the revo 4 spokes... With any of the above I'd go with 185/60 or 175/50 tyres and drop the suspension, keep it very very low and hope the tyres tuck under the archs with the wide wheels. Or I could go 205/60 white letters on my rostyles, or 175/70... or I could even get some 185/60's and paint the white letters on myself! Ooooor, I could get the chrome minilgihts, and put white letters on them, or find some of those chrome appliance 4 spokes. The decisions are killing me!
  15. Just got my insurance all ready, to start on saturday morning - Graham Sykes modified vehicle policy underwitten by N.I.G. £1343 Fully Comp, £350 XS That's for a 19 year old, 0 years no claims, on a mk1 capri 1600xl with: 2.0 pinto engine 5 speed gearbox uprated front discs etc adjustable shockers on the rear front coilover conversion. Give them a try if you're a young'n with a modified car, I was quite suprised . Only thing is, because of the policy, if I want to change cars it has be to another modified car.... oh no
  16. Good stuff . Really don't know what to do about my wheels/tyres. I don't want to keep the 15" alloys that are on it, but I don't know whether to try rostyles with the white letter tyres, or something else with them like revo 4 spokes, or go completely in a different direction and try a wheel that is black with a chrome rim, and some wide, low profile tyres to get it closer to the ground. I feel for you man, I don't want to make the wrong decision! I think you're car will look ace with the coopers, by the way. Will properly bulk out it's footprint too.
  17. What's the clearance like at the back, mate? My car has a mk3 axle fitted which i beleive is something like an inch wider either side, so I'm not sure if the 205's would fit? I think my rostyles are 5.5" too, not sure though. Cooper tyres need to get their arses in gear and start making them in 185 width
  18. You selling it with the mustang for the engine?
  19. Tony mate I just put down on a deposit on a capri similar to yours, daytona yellow, black vinyl roof, but it's on modern alloys at the moment. Pics are over on capripower.co.uk in the for sale section if you want to see what yours might look like on 15's.
  20. Is that expensive? Need to do it on a budget because I want the 175/70 Cooper Cobras for 'em, and they're going to work out at £200 alone.
  21. Ah right cool mate, it's jsu that it asks you to selec MGB or midget before you can order. Is it hard to do? the wheels are pretty crusty but look solid.
  22. '72 Capri. Haven't talked about it with the seller, like I said I don;t know if he is aware. Waiting for my rents to get home to discuss it with them first. I've already given the seller a deposit on the car to get 12 months test on it because it really does look stunning. I'm just worried that if the damage is what causes the door to not line up properly, then there is some damage to the door or the sill/chassis. edit to add: I looked underneath and couldnt see any damage. If it's tested and has no advisories or anything like that then it doesn't bother me all that much, it's just a big investment is all.
  23. LOL what? Will I need MGB or Midget kit? edit: see you got rid of that pic pretty quick
  24. what's best to do with them then? I understand rostyles are difficult to get re-chromed
  25. Been offered a set of rostyles, 2 chrome and 2 painted. Can I strip and polish these in the same way althought they are steel?
