  1. Ahhh, a long range tank, that makes sense Down side is it will cost me even more to fill up grrrrr
  2. Hi All, Just a quick question about my MK2 Escort 1.3L 4 door. I have noticed that the fuel tank is behind the rear seats and not on the right as usual. Where it should be is a tool kit holder and it looks like it came from the factory like this. Any ideas why they would fit it there? Shaun.
  3. Yeah, I think he was joking nar that guys is normally serious b4 takin the piss and he knows his stuff Of course, he could be right, but I have looked for the Johannesburg made Ford axle and can find no mention of it. If it is one I stand corrected
  4. Yeah, I think he was joking
  5. Sean, Your a STAR Shaun
  6. OK, car has been in the garage today and I now have some better shots of the Diff. Also the garage noticed it had 9 inch rear drums and large front brakes and they all look standard. The tester also said the rear shocks were in an unusual position pointing almost straight up and the strut tops are double skinned.
  7. Thanks for having a go. Something different
  8. OK then, anyone know what sort of diff this is ta
  9. Right, first time I have used photobucket, fingers crossed; Oooops, try again soz
  10. Damn, I knew there was something else to ask, my rear diff is like a hex shape, didn't they used to be round? Its been years since I owned a MK2
  11. I have tried that one and it just sat there and looked at me PMSL
  12. I had the car from a scrap yard in Mid Wales who had recovered it from a house clearance apparently.
  13. ^^ And the date of last V5 issued By the way, the info provided was correct
  14. Hard as nails
  15. No, cant find out anything about how it got to the UK or anything about South African Escorts. There are a few bits that are odd, sport steel wheels, no strip down the sides, no heated rear window, speedo in K/Ms only, center consul and glove box, Mimosa Yellow
  16. Hi all, Does anyone know of any other MK2 Escorts that were made in South Africa that live here now. I cant seem to find any information on them on the internet. My new 1.3L is in Mimosa Yellow and is standard. Took it for a pre MOT yesterday at my local garage and they tell me all it needs is a brake line so could be on the road sooner than I thought! http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/ ... ort007.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/ ... ort001.jpg Cheers, Shaun
  17. Thanks, I have had a look and the strut tops look normal but quite thick? The chassis rails at the front of the car look normal, but I could be wrong
  18. The speedo was in K/Ms only, and not MPH, and there was no ariel, not even a hole for one
  19. Thanks for that, but not sure what to look for as not too clued up, any pointers please
  20. Have noticed/been told about few differences; No bright/rub strip along the sides, Sports steel wheels, Glove box and center consul (although didn't they come as standard by about 79?) Mimosa Yellow, take it thats not a usual colour? KMs no MPH on speedo.
  21. ^^ Yeah, it looks all original. Just finished T-cutting a bit and has come up really well, see what its like in daylight!
  22. Ah, I see, thanks. So does that mean anything else might be different? I was not expecting it to be from lands afar
  23. As far as I can see the last two letters are AA on the block. The first two letters on the VIN plate are VJ. What does AX mean?? Not an expert on these things.
  24. Hope these links work..... Shaun
  25. Hi all, Havent been on here in a long while so hello again I am back on the Ford Scene now having this morning picked up a project MK2 Escort in Mimosa Yellow. Its a 1.3L 4 door manual. Its been stored for 9 years in an OAPs garage but is solid with just surface rust but all original. When I opened the Bonnet I looked at the VIN plate and was surprised to see 'Made in South Africa' All the original stickers are also in English and Africaans. My question is this, is it common to find South African models in the UK or is this going to be a rarity? P.S. Cost me £361 off E-Bay!!! Cheers, Shaun
