Start you engines ladies and gents
kevfromwales replied to roland cad 500's topic in NEW MEMBERS INTRODUCTIONS
oh lordy - only been on here a few days and roland's found me!!! I swear I'll bring your engine crane back!!! - kev ps- looks like you've got your nut sorted already!! -
'cos you don't live in wales!! - the barn in question actually partly blew down a few weeks ago, trapping two of my lockup sharing mates up behind a 20' square chunk of corrugated iron - they had to drive a transit over it dukes of hazzard style!! - and our lockup is newer, in better nick, and round the corner!! zetecvan - cheers - much appreciate your efforts getting on here! ta for the welcome!! - kev

cheers mate!! the fez is FAR too good to be one of my cars though, look at how the rest of them get treated!! I want to get it moved somewhere safer asap - I had my lada next to it at the farm and a ladder got dropped on the riva and creased both front wings - thank god it didn't hit the fez!! (the riva is only a cheapo drift hack for the winter!) - kev

and the pop ^^ as found as she is now - I wish ste hadn't painted it!!!

cheers guys! you know how it is when you've had a beer or two and your typing finger gets going!! stooby - yeah RR and the NSRA are 2 of my other haunts! I'll try again with some pics - but I think it said I had to be registered 2 days before I post anything with a u-rl in it?? - kev

right - lastly for now - the truck! guess this doesn't technically class as an osf - more of an os huge yank tank - but it's good for scaring other road users, and I like it! was running a hillman hunter estate as a daily, as I could get it on my classic insurance, it was cheap, and was a good load lugger with the roof rack on - it even hauled my 105e home! ended up doing a dela with a chap near portsmouth for my hunter and some cash for his f100, which was fitted with a 5.7 pontiac v8, and had all the running gear & suspension changed to cope - zero ford mechanicals left in it!! made it down to p/mouth ok, then had to head to poole to get the body for my roadster picked up - alas, it was between postmouth and poole that the 3 speed auto decided it'd had enough of forwards, and would only play in reverse!! eventually got recovered home by the AA, swapped in a s/h box, that blew after 3 weeks, so I got a bigger th400 out of a cadillac (don't ask!) fitted that, then sold the engine and box - and am now part way to converting it to chevy and a manual gearbox - which in theory I shouldn't be able to break!!

the festa? this was my one major piece of old car good luck when I was working at the local car dealers little old lady comes down to work one day, says she's given up driving and would any of the mechanics like her fiests? - it's 20 years old (this was in 2007) - all the lads refuse point blank I agreed to have it, thinking if nothing else it was 40 quid scrap for what was in all likelihood a tatty as fook mk2 fez - got up to her house the next day, to be met with not a mk2 fez, but a mk1 - and not any mk1, but a genuine 8500 from new mk1 fiesta - that's not 85 k - that's 8 AND ONE 1/2 K!!!! nearly fell out of the garage! she explained that she'd had an accident in the car, and her spinster sister had advised her to stop driving - so she did - but I hadn't seen any damage? she took me round to the passenger side, where she showed me the missing wing mirror and the 2" shallow scratch /dent to the door - she 'hit' a skip - looks more like she gently caressed it!! needless to say I had it, but it's just way too tidy for me - never welded - went straight through an mot with an advise for sticky calipers (!) - and when I got it back to work the lack of service history was even explained - one of the mechanics (who worked in another franchise)_ used to service the car for her!! think it'll be my first and last experience of mint cars - it needs to be wrapped in cotton wool and taken out on sunny days methinks!

the next pop was the trader from steve - it was found by our local banger racers - and they were going to put it round the track - but thankfully I saw it first - early 2 door with the little back window, the kidney shaped dash and the 3 bar grille!! - all original apart from some filler in the dents!! steve bought the car, then we traded, and I was left with the bog stock 'E', a type 9 which I traded a cortina 4 speed for, an anglia prop, an anglia axle with the 9" drums, and an ex transit low mileage 2 ltr pinto - even dropped on a weird pinto manifold set up for (and including) twin SU's!?! also bought an old ford auto's X member and associated bit, and an escort front end for it - it's like a 1:1 scale unassembled model kit at the moment!!

iI know - I'll give you all a bit of gen about my wheels - then I can stick some pics of them up after!! as mentioned above, the first osf I owned (indeed first 'old' car I ever owned) was a '58 ford 100e 2 door - was an impulse buy off good old ebay after I went to go an see an overprised and very rotted out 62 ford falcon station wagon fitted with a 2 ltr pinto - bought the pop on the rebound!! got it home from perry bar in birmingham by A-framing it behind a mate's transit, and when we got back the horrors were uncovered - entire front suspension held on with nuts that were finger tight, carb resting on the clutch master cylinder, no water in it, servo disconnected, brakes shot, no diff oil, no fan, no seats (or ANY interior!), bushes all needed doing, coil springs mig'd to the strut!! replaced both master cyl's with remotes (used a landy one for the clutch) did the brakes all round, front end bushed and many other things - then got it mot'd - what a hoot it was to get on the road!! after that I bunged in another 1600 x flow to replace the one with the disappearing oil pressure, replaced the 4.1 diff (and both halfshafts) after a bit too much burning out blew the anglia axle to bits (planet gears and twisted both shafts!), and many other bits - and then swapped it to a mate steve (who had done the engine swap with me) he now has the car on red oxide lotus steels (which were mine!) and in grey primer - and some 2" blocks under the back - looks about a million times better!!

hi all! kev from up in north wales here - signing up at last! (getting to all the forums I always 'meant' to get on!!) at the moment the 'fleet' consists of an early 2 door 100e, a mk1 fiesta, a '61 ford f100 pickup truck, a part built '32 ford roadster hot rod, a nissan laurel and a lada riva (don't ask!!) past fords have included a 1600 x flow powered 100e 2 door, with classic struts and an anglia axle with 4 spokes - the usual - except it was bright cadburys purple!!! went like a b*stard - but eventually attracted a bit too much police attention, so I swapped it for the standard one I now own, with plans to rack and pinion and pinto it I also bought a 105e which was terminally goosed - like rot alomost all the way round the strut tops, very little inner sills etc - yielded up some handy bits though! however, a lack of storage space has put paid to most of my plans, so I'll be directing myself to your classifieds in a bit to advertise some of my lockup filling stuff! still won't be able to resist the next old motor that comes along though, always fancied a mk1 tina wagon, or a corsair!! any ford fans local then feel free to pop round for a brew and a chat! - kev (did have pics but I can't post them yet - so they'll follow!!)
