Cheers Jo and the gang. A pity that I couldn't make it to yesterday's last hurrah due to a combination of Pig Cold, a 40th Birthday and the need to pretend to do some writing up on a Sunday. It's been a pleasure to come to the rounds I have and be so welcomed. I know it's said too often, but I fully intend to be on the srtip a bit more next year... even if I have to come in the Skoda! What a wicked show, well done to Si (and that other bloke) for an excellent stand and all the OSF'rs (was 172 the final total?). Some immense cars there... The Cortina enjoyed itself (all apart from when Gareth kept repeating the 'slammed' word and upsetting the high-rider... I like it up in the air like that!) 22.77 seconds @ 57.7 mph I think was the best time. Not sure the 1200 has ever revved anywhere near that before... ... and 4paraJon... bugger, why didn't I remember to bring those seats!!!

Green Alfa? Was just messing about with the settings in Photobucket and thought it looked quite cool... Thanks for the comments. Luckily the tax man wasn't too harsh this year (mainly because I've earned bugger all ), which means I can afford to hang on to the old girl for a bit. Will be nice to have aworking OSF for the season for once. Hoping to try the drag racing challenge out (I'm going for the tortoise school of winning) and will deffo be at Santa Pod for the CF Show. OK, and the massive fail sheet contained the following items... Wipers no good One washer squirty no good Handbrake low Slight blow from exhaust Lights pointing the wrong way (DOH!)... So apart from a few body scabs and scars there's zero rust... yay Should be sorted in the morning if the Lucas H4s from a Bedford van in the scrappy are the same size as the Cortina's! Then it's off to play at the DVLA. Jo, what's the slowest time ever recoreded in the OSFDRC? And I think the Alfa looks well cool in green, if only a respray was as easy as photoshop!

I guess you'll be swapping the engine to a 957cc in yours now Ade... about the only thing you'll be able to insure after your latest run in with PC Plod! Mine was sold on the weekend to an 18 year-old who loved it... and it was made 3 years before he was born, so old skool? Who knows...

Definitely more Fiestas should be in the mag... I've liked em ever since my old chap bought a signal green 1.1S in the first couple of months of production SDG (can't remember the numbers)R. Those Cadiz seats in the early cars have been my favourite Ford interior ever since. He moved on in 1980 to a yellow 1.3 Ghia NDD 950W (great colours, rather than the bland sea of Silver out there today) which I remember him testing out the 0-60 on down a country lane somewhere in the Cotswolds. Thing was he had a trestle table in the back at the time which meant me and my sister were lying in the back with the seats down and with the rear hatch open... as an adult I'm struggling to figure out why he would have done that? Another memory brings me to my main point here... I also have a recollection of being driven in one of the first XR3s, by a mate's dad who was a farmer down in the West Country. I think we must have been to a party because I was pissed (I hope my mate's dad wasn't!) and the drive round some very narrow lanes in this quick Escort with solid suspension and excellent handling scared the living cr*p out of me. Now I know MkIIIs are a no-no on OSF, but can't we like the carb'd XR3 just a little bit. I wouldn't mind a minter parked in the garage....

Actually, Corsairs rule... against boats anyway... Just for the record, and tying in to another thread I was reading today, in my time at CF, I decided in my wisdom that the MkI Fiesta's time had come and was responsible for putting one on the cover (I forget the issue but it would have been about mid-2004?). The car in question was a stunner, which had had thousands and thousands spent on it, and IMHO deserved a cover issue as much as any Escort. Unfortunately the issue sold about 2000 less than any other that year and I got my arse kicked big time... Not having seen the figures for a while I can't swear it's still true, but I'd also say that ALL the best selling issues I ever did had Escorts on the cover... despite me trying my best to sneak other cars on every now and again. What I'm trying to say is that in the end the customer votes with his/her cash and in the CF world that means Escorts will always dominate the editorial... although I also agree that most other models are covered better than they ever have been in the mag's history (those of you with collections of back issues check it out and tell me I'm not right...) And for those who still think CF are a bunch of Escort elitists go try this... go in to work and tell your boss you are going to change something about your work which means the company will make less money next month... I'd hazard a guess they won't be saying "yeah go ahead"! Can I have a Corsair on the cover for your final issue now Steve? Go on, what are they gonna do? Sack you?

Hi all, Marc Stretton here. Some of you may recognise the name from Classic Ford magazine a few years back (or the occasional rant on OSF). I'm currently working on a feature called Dream Ticket for Classics Monthly magazine, where we try to make a reader's wishes come true. I have a guy who used to work on Savages in the late 60s who'd love to have a drive/ride in one again. So, I am trying to arrange to get him up to Santa Pod this weekend, but need to find someone who will be at the show in a MkII Cortina Savage that wouldn't mind being part of the feature. If anyone is going to be there and would like to know more please get back to me here. The chap may not be able to make it up to the Pod, in which case I'd be looking to do a shoot, probably in the Somerset/Gloucestershire/Devon area early next week. Again, if anyone thinks they may be able to help, please let me know. The article will feature the car extensively, the owner will get chance to be involved too (or not if they don't want to) and I will of course be doing a bit of a tribute to the late great Jeff Uren in there also. As Chris says tho, a keen interest in the subject and persistence goes a massive way too. I did do a one year NCJ course (which was actually more aimed at newspaper journalism than magazines) but with that and many years working in the car industry I was able to talk my way in to a job with Mini Magazine as a trainee sub-editor/writer from where I worked my way up to Editor on CF a few years later... then A&S Publishing got taken over by Future publishing and CF moved from Gloucester to Bath and I jumped ship with a fair old wedge of redundancy money to go freelancing, which I'm still doing now. Writing's a pretty cool way to make a living so if you fancy it just go for it... Good luck
