  1. wow escamino, some work ha gone into that. cant see any joins in body work at all. well done.lg
  2. I bought one, got bored of waiting for my actual car to come back from shot blasters so decided to make a model. Not finished yet but did paint it moderna green like my RS.
  3. Thank you very much. Glad thats figured out. Now to look at some pictures of sapphire blue. LG
  4. Good idea, dont know why i didnt think of it. Here's whats come up. Date of Liability 01 01 2011 Date of First Registration 07 03 1972 Year of Manufacture 1972 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1993CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status SORN Not Due Vehicle Colour RED Vehicle Type Approval Well thats thrown a spanner in the works. Does the vehicle colour mean its original vehicle colour or the one that is currently registered as it was red before stripped it. Originally it was a 1300 but has since had a 2ltr pinto dropped in it so i gues it works the same with paint. Is there anothe check you can do? will figure it out eventually. personally thining it could be miami blue. LG
  5. Yeah I'm basically trying to find out its original colour. Unfortunately it was either red on the outside or black hamerite on the inside. Now hopefully its all bare metal as picking it up from the shot blasters later in the week. The chassy plate and vin tag are from same car as numbers match up so i presume thats right. Its a jan 72 escort so could miami blue be correct? Thanks for peoples help, still confused tho. lg
  6. forgot to say its a jan 72 escort. Its a bit wierd how the chassy plate is different to the body tag then or does that happen? lg
  7. thank you both of you. Very help full. The one in my avatar is mk1 rs in its proper colour of moderna green. It's for another one I'm building. (yes i appreciate I'm lucky to be buildig my second escort at my age but i do work hard) I've only seen decoders with the letters and havnt come accross the numbers before so will be saving them. Now off to find a picture of Miami blue. sounds good and may be changing from my original idea. Wonder why it says s a p p h i r e on the body plate then if its code is for miami blue. Cheers. LG
  8. (As i said I'm sorry that its another paint code question. Tried the usual vin decoding on the Rs owners club as well as that Rs garage site. links have been posted previosuly on this but they didnt help as they didnt have the information on paint just everything else. The chassy plate underFarbe/colour says 1. Thats it. On the Vin plate (may have those names the wrong way around) it says Sapp-hire F (the F i presume respondes to the FA on the trim.) Does anybody have any ideas as to what the colour could be. I found on the link below a paint called sapp-hire blue but that is off a cortina. http://freespace.virgin.net/tommy.sandh ... ndtrim.htm Any body got any ideas at all. The rest of the plate i can understand. Cheers in advance. Lgreen added: so now the chasys plate which says "1" under colour (which means miami blue) doesnt match to the body tag which says s p p h i r e. which one is right? I'm bit confused. LG) Added: all that from trying to solve paint colour. Now i know its s a p p h i r e blue can people show me photos of cars in the colour please. struggling to find many shots. the swear filter doesnt help much either! lg
  9. Is it me or does the mini not look to have a lsd. just spinning one wheel like mad. Was planning on going and watching but unfortunately i was at work.lg
  10. Right then i've gone to see the bloke that does shot blasting for me. he said he would do it for £400 quid inside underside, engine bay, boot and exterior, as long as i remove the underseal as it just clogs up his machine. can do body panels as well as uses a soft plastic bead of some sort. didnt think it was too bad so will be sending it in soon. its a cheaper alternative to acid dipping which i've had done in the past and was very good. will put photos up when its done. lg
  11. Hi all, I'm rebuilding a MK1 escort wth fibre glass arches and have it fully stripped. about to get a quote to get underside, inside, engine bay and boot shot blasted but thought would see what other people have been charged as well. used him before for wheels etc and always been good. Would just like a comparison. Theres loads of underseal on it and i just havnt got the time to be stripping it by hand, it ill never get done other wise. Cheers for any thought. lg
  12. you can get paper rope that you can then glass over that does same job. it absorbs the resin stuff but cant remember the rope name. lg
  13. cheers for that info. thought they looked more like 8's. may end up getting 7's then as are cheaper. fantastic shot as well. my mates into photography so will have to get him to shoot soe of mine. lg
  14. what width wheel and off set you running, building a bubble and need some wheels so would be good to know what fit well. looks amazing. lg
  15. Where would people recommend i go to get a new lsd for a mk1 escort on an english axle. also with the people who advertise on the site do we get discount. heard people saying we do but when bought somehting online from midlandwheels recently nothing came up with the option of getitng a discount. would be nice to know. always good to save money. cheers for help. lg
  16. i know midlands wheels have an advertising banner on this site but do we get discount and if so how do i get it when ordering online. cheers. lg
  17. was meant to be going out to watch the tour this week but had last week off instead. gutted not going. looks like its going to be interesting. where do you work then if you make his handle bars? lg
  18. just remembered how we did the aluminium brackets more. the part we folded and bonded onto the bonnet had elongated holes drilled in it for adjustability then we made another plate to go behind it that had the riv nuts on so could adjust the bonnet easily to get good gaps. lg
  19. you can either buy the fibre glass bonnets with the internals or bond some folded ally to the inside where you want to mount to original hinges if your just getting the skin. then drill ali and we used riv nuts to make life easier. we used body filler to bond ali on and then did few layer of fibre glass over it to make sure. also as we had just bought a skin we did an x in the middle of the bonnet to give it bit more strength as when they get very hot (we used ours for rallying so you may not need to) we found it did sag a bit. hope that helps. lg
  20. I bought a CUBE not long ago. Lesser known make but are as good as specialised and oranges. the spec i got on the cube for £750 was better than the same price specilised. they do do cheaper options as well which are same frame but slightly cheaper components which then means you can upgrade components if you start to do proper cross country. bought it from richardsons cycles in hull. lg
  21. Looks like i picked the wrong place. Get enough hands on experiance at home so didnt really matter. lg
  22. was a good three years. no realy hands on working on cars stuff, more designing based using comps and lots of maths. unfortunately was mainly stuff on single seaters but it relates.
  23. I went to uni at oxford brookes (the other uni in oxford) and did motorsport technology. was lucky enough to have geoff goddard as one of my lecturers (cosworth guy behind many winning formula one engines) He used to just spend his lectures telling stories from his life. He was involved with putting a jag engine in a van as they needed to road test it. he used to race loads of cars from the lights in it. they were all confused why they were losing to a van. yet to build an engine and see if what he taught me works. lg
  24. I'm from hull and got some sound deadening from godfry autoparts. think they have other stores around country or at least outside of hull. it wasnt exactly like original but did exactly same job and looked similar. had diamond shaped patterns in it. wasnt much either. will look for name when get a chance/if remember. recomend just going to a parts dealer like above and just ask what they've got. you could paint over this stuff like the originl as well. lg
