my dad has one from carcoon which was over £300. Ive since shipped two over from china (£100 each) and they do the job just as well but dont haev the battery drip feed charger. very good products all of them and do work well.

I have heard the same about the petrol light on the dash letting you know which side it is but not checked it out. I thought the reason the fuel flap was on different sides was because its got to be on the opposite side to where the exhaust exits?

check out sapphire (sap-phire incase stupid spell checker) blue was on some mk1s i believe. paint code is somthing very basic like 1 or 0. LG

I know youve stated mk2 but are mk2 not pretty much the same as MK1?

Similar to all above, few electrics, wire, tools, spare hose and clips and odd bolts etc and tie wraps. I got a sparco tool bag years ago as birthday present and its perfect to keep it all in and tucks in nicely behind the wheel in standard position in wheel well so you get to have a nice empty large boot space. and it doesnt roll around damaging stuff.

when i fly from liverpool i often get early flights, with the hotel there you get free parking while you are away which works well. fairly sure other places do it as well.

my garage has a tiled roof on wooden beams and when moved in knew it would get lots of rubbish dropping down so first job in the house was to line the inside with sheeting to catch all that drops, its jsut stapled up (either plastic sheeting or that breathable menbrane stuff) helped for me, during winter its kept in a carcoon as well.LG

if its the vent hole then yes a tube out and down will be good enough. In rally cars to pass scrutineering it has to have some loops in it so if you roll it doesnt spill out (obvious fire hazard). Might be worth having it come up, coil round a couple of times then down, ideally not near your exhaust! hope that helps. LG

I dont know the answer but i saw a book advertised in classic ford about MK1 escorts and what was standard etc on the sport models. Its a bit geeky but I'm tempted.

Hi Nik not sure why it would be pulling them forward (the twin cam does have longer threads as well as thicker to allow you to bring it forward but only slightly) the only problem i have had in the past with double width mounting kit was needed to open holes out to get them to line up with my bolts. LG

Hi All Just thought i would mention i saw a lovely looking MK1 escort on the back of a modern citroen flat bed tow van.Spec as far as i could tell was: white,english axle, lotus steels (i think), mexico wings, holes in front panel that appear not to be swaged, no glass in. It looked like it was fresh from respray, my only thoughts were it was being towed in the open on a day forecast for lots of rain and snow. I know if it had been mine looking that fresh i wouldnt be transporting it in all that bad weather. My road car was grafted! I did get a photo from the back if people are worried. More than likely legit but worth a comment i thought. LGreen

we needed a boot seal for a cortina rally car (had an ali boot skin so wasnt standard and obviously not escort) and happened to have a volvo 340 that was used as a field car. ripped that seal off and cut it to length and used it for the boot and worked a treat. if youve got any other cars kicking aorund try one of them. might work.just an idea.

ITs not for that colour but i like the fact the original colour of my bubble arch escort I'm building was sap-phire blue. The code for this is 1! Makes me happy at least.

you dont need any special licence to drive a luton (again as far as i am aware but do use them for work so sure they wouldnt set me wrong) as long as its still a 3.5 tonne one its the same chassis as a van but can take physically bigger loads. and i passed my test after 97 (i think was the cut off).

decent discussion going, nice to see. Overheadcam has the right idea, everyone just needs to get along and think of others. They all have rights to use the road as long as they dont take the piss then its all fine. The horses shouldnt have been four abreast and as soon as they realsied there were vehicles should have gone back to pairs but theres always people that spoil it for others. Cyclist, of which i am a keen one, do tend to get a bad rep. Again they shouldnt take up the whole road but dont have to ride in a cycle path if they dont want to (highway code, If I'm travelling along at over 20mph on my road bike i dont want to be stopping at crossings and be on a rubbish path i want to crack on on the road)It often happens that when ridding in the country side we ride 2 abreast, sometimes 3 if its a nice open road so we can have a chat, but as soon as we see a car we drop down to single file to let it pass. WE dont want to have to cycle in single file when we maybe dont see a car for 20 mins, obviously dropping into single file for blind corners etc. If you just give people a second or two to move out of the way then you normally can get past, if they dont move when they have seen you then they are the idiots that ruin it for everyone. Having said all this, when I'm on my bike i hate all car drivers and when I'm in my car i hate all cyclists. sure it would be the same if i was on a horse!

I had to check it wasnt april the 1st. thats unbelievable. hope it was just the driver in and not a family, would have been crazy scary/shocking.

Cool video, Just wanted to say blue mk1 cortina that was in retro ford with a white door circle looks to have fuel leaking out of filler cap under hard acceleration. would hate for it to hit a hot exhaust and go up. if people know him please just let him know.

Not too fussed either way really. I would prefer it to be 80mph, but as people say the roads are far too over crowded. In france the motorways are far quieter between cities and i think the quality of driving is better. Yes the cars are alot better now, more importantly from stopping power than thinking weve got airbags now so it doesnt matter if we crash! but people will still speed and rather than go 77 they will now go 88mph.

Travelling from derby back to hull on sunday i saw a fair few old vw heading home. Made a boring motorway journey bit nicer with some classics to look at. I did think though it is mainly old VW that you see when travelling, do they use them more than we do? were there more to start with? or do we just prefer taking the back roads? It just always seems to be old vw i see being used the most.
