There were some quality cars there, for sure. Great show, I'll be back there next year (hopefully with my car a bit cleaner, and not looking like I just slept in it, to meet the standard...)

Nice pics, man. Was a good day, to be sure

I had a really good day up at Silverstone for Ford Fair. Did a couple of 0-60 runs in the Cortina and would have liked to take it on the track, but didn't know I needed both parts of my driving licence... Photobucket album here: http://s699.photobucket.com/albums/vv35 ... ir%202011/ Far too much modern stuff there, as expected, but I think that just makes the classic stuff look even better in comparison My best 0-60 time was 7.12s, on the first go, and that was with a bit too much wheelspin off the line. Second go, I took it a bit easier, thinking I'd do better with a bit of a smoother take off, but ended up with a slower time... Some really nice cars there, weather was good (just a little shower at lunchtime that dried up quick), and some very 'easy on the eye' promo girls (wanted to get more pics of them, but wasted too much time looking at and talking cars...) Just a bit disappointed with the poor turnout of Mk3-5 Cortinas and Mk1 and 2 Granadas. Plenty of Capris and Escorts, though

Cheers for the nice comments there. Yep, the mk4 2 doors are pretty rare the se days- supposedly only around 10 left in the country. Lots more around in Europe, though, where they made 2 doors in all specs and engine sizes right up to the 2.3S and ghia. The colour ia Ford Performance Blue- the colour of the new focus / mondeo ST/RS. (And a slightly different shade to 'Imperial Blue'.)

I have owned this Cortina for 13+ years, and learnt to drive in it. The restoration and modifications to it were carried out by Steve Taylor in Essex, who knows his stuff on Cortinas, 24v Cosworths, and Fords, generally. It was originally a 1300 L model. The old crossflow is likely to end up in my cousin's 1950s Ford Pop / Prefect (the 4 door one), to make it go a bit quicker than the sidevalve that's in there now... Anyway, heres a few pics of the Corty. And here's one of it in the Summer when I passed my driving test (in it). It is now just about exactly the way I want it, but I will be getting Mr. Taylor to remove the power steering, and put a manual rack back in- steering is just too light for proper feedback, and I don't like anything unnecessary sapping engine power. It also needs a biggish soundsystem intall (6 inch fronts under dash, 6x9s behind the rear seat back, and an amp driven sub there too), which I can take care of, but don't want anything too visible... Also, the battery needs to be relocated to the boot, and I may invest in some new number plates (although I like the old type, they are just difficult to get clean) Spec includes: 2.9 24v Cosworth lump (BOA) Hybrid MT75 rear wheel drive gearbox Limited slip diff heavy duty rear axle Mk2 Granada injection calipers Capri injection discs Lowered and uprated springs 3 door cossie alloys (black / 'diamond cut') Genuine Ford RS front and rear spoilers (Mk5 Cortina) Black beta cloth interior with Mk2 Rs2000 recaros, Cortina L 2 door matching rear seats Black 2 door door cards, from Germany, where they had a lot more 2 doors (Taunuses). Kenlowe fan, recored mk4 Cortina 2.3 radiator with closer spaced tubes for better cooling capacity. I have badged it as a 2.9S, copying how I saw Jim (littlenewt) did on his red 2.9 GLS 2 door mk5, using the "2" from a "2.0" and an upside down "6" from a "1.6" badge. It is often my daily driver at the moment, and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I don't often drive it fast, but it is nice to have 200+ bhp to play with... I would like to take it to the Nurburgring one day, but think I need some proffessional race driver training first... Don't wanna stack it.

Does anyone know who supplies a new fuel tank for a Mk1/2 Escort Estate? I have tried Hadrians Panels and are out of stock and they said to ask again in a couple of weeks, Aaron Radiators have them, but their price seems higher than I was expecting (£150 odd). I tried the contact details for Auto Panels, but got no answer on their phone no and had my email returned undelivered so I'm not even sure if they are still in business? Any help on this one appreciated.

Cheers for the comments, I guess it was a bit of a controversial move taking off the Mexico stripes, but I've always thought less is more with stripes, trim etc. Even if I had a genuine Mexico, I'd prefer one without stripes. Unfortunately the escort is off the road already- noticed a strong smell of petrol on a full tank and saw a leak. Found a nasty big hole in the top of the tank: Don't really want petrol dripping onto the exhaust! At least new tanks are still available so should get this sorted by the weekend.

I have just bought this 1970 Mk1 estate from ebay and am now using it as my daily transport. It is my first proper (rwd) escort, although I also own a mk4 Cortina which will be on the road pretty soon with a 24v conversion, and have had a couple of Capris and another Cortina in the past. I picked it up in Yorkshire and drove it home to Hampshire. The only "what have I bought" moment was when the accelerator cable snapped just South of York (bit of a bodge job- too short and tightly radiused to fit properly) and when I was waiting in the rain for the AA man to turn up and make up a new (improved) one. Quick fix and no problems the rest of the way though. It seems a good solid car for its 40 years, has had sills, strut tops replaced. There are a few rust bubbles wanting attention. The paintwork isn't perfect but cleans up well and looks good as long as you don't look too close! It is running a pinto and 5 speed and drives well and feels very quick. The previous owner was told when he bought it, it had been bored to 2.1 but this hasn't been checked. It is a 202 block which I think is a transit block and the best?? base for a 2.1 overbore? There is a bit of a rattle from the cam, but I have a replacement (standard / non unleaded) head which came with the car. I'm not sure whether I'll fit this or go for an uprated gas flowed head and a fast road or high torque cam kit. I want to keep it driveable from low revs, and get a decent mpg from it. The brakes could really do with some uprating too, due to the lack of servo. I'm not sure if they are the original calipers, I was told the struts are from a mk2 1600 sport, I'll have to get some pictures up of them and hopefully someone who has more experience of escorts can tell me for definite what the set up is. Hopefully the pics will come out here, not sure if I've got enough posts on here yet? I will add some engine and interior shots soon. MOT time next month but only thing (I hope!) needs doing is getting the hazard light working. I have a few plans for the car, but no major changes, just a bit of tidying up and improving the brakes and stiffer springs. I have a set of 7 in 4 spokes (RS Ronals) that are probably going to go on sometime, and I would really like a 6 clock dash. Mexico wings and a full respray will have to wait as my Cortina is taking most of my my spending for now...

Patrick MkIV replied to SmokeEm's topic in SHOWS, EVENTS & MEETS
Farnham's just down the road from me so I'll come down and have a couple What time is the meet? Hopefully seeing a few cars will get my arse into gear getting my cortina back on the road! -
Hi, I've had a few old fords over the years- Cortinas, Capris and a Falcon Panel Van (when I was in Oz.) At the mo I've got my 2 door Mk4 Cortina that I've owned for about 10 years, it's not on the road right now, but should be soon. I'd be interested in anyone's projects / advice about cossie V6 swaps as this is what I'd like to put in it eventually. I've also got a Mk4 escort van daily driver- but I'll shut up about that... Cheers, Patrick
