  2. this is just a short ferry ride away but it's just way too much for me http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/c ... 75932.html
  3. thanks everyone... the big plus is that the wife now looks like this
  4. I have, in the last 3 1/2 years, completely forgotten how much work a newborn is. How some people handle three or more kids amazes me. I really need a good night's sleep. Mom doing great, real trooper. Daughter is super excited, for now. cheers, marek
  5. Sorry if this has already been posted here but WTF are they kidding?? I am embarrassed to say i have owned one of these pieces (it was free and had four wheels) Didn't TopGear spend about $100K to make it go well?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Escort-Mk2-altern ... 500wt_1156
  6. This is what the housing market looks like in victoria, bc. http://www.realtor.ca/propertyDetails.a ... 1175149147 ten years ago the prices were about a third of what they are today. Unfortunately, i was too stupid then to buy a house...
  7. My buddy took me out to our local track last summer. He let me drive his corolla which was a real blast, i'm hooked... here is a video of me... Here is the car... my best lap was just over 73s, my buddy was four seconds faster. I have a lot to learn...
  8. Thanks for your replies. I seem to have two issues in importing a car. First, the uk gov website I was reading made it sound like in order to export a car i have to buy it in person from a registered export retailer. Second, I am on the west coast of canada so direct shipping is an issue. Although, I do have a brother in Halifax and I may be able to put temp insurance on the car and drive it to bc, a bit dodgy with a 40-year old car. shipping from Halifax to Victoria will set me back $2K. I will send you guys a pm.... Marek btw, sound like there some cheap lhd parts kicking around the uk from conversions... what would it cost to convert rhd to lhd? i understand that cars coming to canada must be empty. ie, no spares on board
  9. I am still looking for a mk1 escort to bring to canada and i found this fellow in Germany who claims to export cars regularly. I have found his name mentioned on other forums and so he seems legit. his contact info is Jens E. Richter - Automobilexporte www.car-exporter.de www.richterimpex.de Has anyone dealt with him by chance? thanks, marek
  10. Ok, so, British publications have always been available here (In the 90's I used to buy Car & Car Conversions which I thought was a solid mag.)Just discovered that a local shop stocks Retro Ford...really excited! The Jan issue just arrived so I will be getting my mags a bit late, oh well. This January edition doesn't disappoint, high quality stuff, although it didn't take me long to read it front to back. (read - make it thicker, please)... can't wait to bring an escort over... Marek
  11. I took the ferry from Victoria to Vancouver and a day away from the family only to find a trashed pickup there instead of the good little truck advertised. the pics didn't show any of the crumpled body work and the owner didn't mention it. i guess he figured that i would buy it so i wouldn't go home empty handed. no thanks
  12. sadly, revs severely limited. 12k, i think
  13. BTW, that is me with our escort c. 1984
  14. If I had the money, this is what i would buy. It's identical to the car we owned (my dad owned) in the Czech rep. He bought it new and left it at the wreckers in 1985 in Austria when we escaped and moved to Canada. I think that was a sad day for him. ...sorry for getting so sentimental... Marek http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-escort-mk-1- ... 3908494443
  15. wow, you could buy a descent car for the cost of some of those plates... Thanks for the explanation... here in british columbia, anyone can buy a personalized plate for $100(within the rules laid out by ICBC) but i am not sure if it can be sold to someone else... anyways, if the plate isn't renewed every year, you lose the rights to the slogan cheers
  16. ok, i live in canada so this might seem like a stupid question but... i saw an osf for sale and the ad said the car includes plate worth $$$$. we can't sell plates in bc, canada. they are property of the insurance corporation. just curious how this works in the UK. how are the plates valued? marek
  17. I enjoy TopGear, unfortunately, I think that I will have to wait until next year to watch the new series here in canada....
