antz Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 ok people... ive got some genuine lotus steel wheels! set of 5 including 5 chrome hubcaps. been in storage for at least 20years so have some surface rust and need a refurb! nothing a sandblaster and some paint wouldnt cure but i dont have time. there is a TINY flatspot about 1cm long on the outside rim of one of the wheels. does not affect it at all as it has a tyre on it at the moment! (probably someone getting clumsy with the curb) would hammer out easy! basically....what are they worth? cheer people
EscortDan Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 To be honest mate the lotus steel prices go up and down quicker than a whores draws on pay day! I think anywhere between £60-£150 for them, a mint set is worth more IF they are genuine! Are the genuine ones? To tell get a tyre off and there should be a Dunlop symbol stamped into the rim with some writting! Dan
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Let me have them, I will give you £30 Seriously, I have seen sets on eBay vary depending on condition and with or without caps. The caps arent anything special, they are the same as any other big chrome centre cap of Old Skool. The wheels however are worth between £80 and £150. I have seen refurbished wheels go for £250 before now without rubber. To give you a better example, my ones came without caps, but nearly new rubber. I payed £175 BTW, if you do decide to sell, drop me a PM first as my mate is looking for some for his Anglia - Ta muchly
antz Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 im not sure if they have the dunlop symbol BUT they are defo 5.5inch as that is stamped in the rim! i hd a pic up ages ago when i first got them and oldskoolgeezer confirmed they are lotus steels! i cn get pics of them but not until tonight.

Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 they will be for sale jimbob just wanna get a value first. you dont go into an exam without studying first Why not???? I did LOL
EscortDan Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Genuine ones have the dunlop stamp, there are a lot of remakes, that look identical to them and fool a lot of people and basically are the same wheel, but if they are stamped then they are worth a lot more to a concourse person! I was lucky with mine i payed £60 with tyres and they are all genuine, even a genuine spare! My other set has 3 genuine and a remake, i can't tell the difference with a tyre on!
EscortDan Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 as long as they are 5.5j and look nice with a shiney cap they look the nuts on any old ford! Even a mk1 / mk2 fiesta! Dan
antz Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 this gets confusing 3 have very old tyres on and 2 dont. they are stamped with the size on them! not sure abut the dunlop symbol but defo a size stamp! knowing the guy who i got them off they possibly are genuine ones! he is a right hoarder! has about 6 sheds full of parts. all old and rare will get pics tonight! and ill loko for this dunlop symbol you speak of
EscortDan Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Well worth looking for, could make you an extra few quid! If you have only one with a stamp i would do a swap with you! Get a pic up! Have you tried thtem on your MK2? i think they would look pretty cool slammed on the deck! Oldskool geezers wide steels came from me orignally, i bought them for my escort in the hope they would fit standard arches at the back but didn't, i sold them to my mate Marc who had them on his mk1 tina estate and then he sold them onto george with a normal set for a very very good price! I waffle a lot don't i
antz Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 no not tried them on my escort. i bought them for my mk2 but then changed my mind lotus steels dont suit a mk2 in my opinion. ill get some pics tonight! dammit i wanna go home now and raid the garage but im stuck in an office PICS TONIGHT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!
arch Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 they would look good on a standard lookin early mk2 escort pop cos the had chrome caps. get the saarrfff london look with ruber band tryes but how many early mk2 pops have u seen about lately in a standard lookin condition???? lol
antz Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 GOT PICS!!! this ones the worst one with the most surface rust: the back: the caps: i couldnt find any dunlop symbol so i guess there isnt one on them! opinions please and for the right offer they are for sale also the three tyres on them are very old and very worn! only fit for the bin

orionmojo Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 that offer sticks m8. i quie fancy the challenge of a refurb. tyres are no prob, my old fella ows a garage, plus ihave 4 minters waiting to go on something like i said, i dont need them, but i've 5 sets of wheels for the orion, and now a choice of two for the cortina, why stop at two? its a disease i tell ya!!
