X-pack-Glyn Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 I remember this one guy about 11 years ago, i had a pretty tatty capri 3 litre ghia auto... he seemd a bit odd, a bit quiet, defo not the sort for a car like that, said he just wanted a run about for the summer for uni till he went back up north, i showed him round the car and he was a bit sort of tyre-kickish, but didnt really have a clue about cars... i was starting to think about giving up as he seems to be a bit of a lost cause... then i took him on the test drive, well, i did 120 down the marlow bypass and hit 120 and he was like a different bloke.... his face was allmost leaning against the screen, leaned forward in his seat and he starts screaming "YEAH, FOOKIN HELL YEAH, IL BUY IT", i though "fookin hell, nutter allert".... when we retuurned he was off like a shot to the cashpoint and gave me 50 quid more than the asking price, smashed the thing up a week later, to this day its still sat in his garage rotting away, he will never sell it.
antz Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 is that a bad ending or good stupid idiot for smashing it but at least the osf life is still with him! if only he would fix it
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 I could tell you a few mate! Myself and a good mate of mine used to sell cars some years ago, I have a few stories, but one is most memorable. We bought an A reg Mini-Metro which was up for £80 no offers. I managed to get the bloke down to £40 lol, and we picked it up the next weekend. It needed a couple of mechanical parts, and we gave it a re-spray. It actually looked very nice... for a Metro. A week later, the gearbox let go, so we persisted and replaced it. So, up for sale again. Had lots of phone calls, but one was from a particularly interested young lad. He said he will be right up for a look. Sure enough, a knock at the door shortly followed. He was with 3 of his mates, they all had a look round, and he asked for a test drive. Now, I don't know who drove up to mine, but it wasn't him. He drove round the block, went round to the other end of my road (going down hill) and he selects 1st as opposed to 3rd. I thought, oi oi, time for another box 'ere... quickly followed by... Can he drive??? Anyway, a short distance down the road, he turned left, but he was too quick, and took it too wide. What resulted was a collision with a Mk2 Golf which was driven by what turned out to be a very understanding chap. The lad said, "shall I say you were driving?" I said, "no, I don't think so", and we piled out the car. The Golf driver was understandably pissed about the damage, but I told him what the word was, which, as it happens, does sound quite unbelievable. I said "Your not going to believe this mate, but he is on a test drive, it is actually my motor which I am selling." Anyway, he had a few choice words to say to the lad, and off we all went. The lad said, "what do you want to sell it for?" I said "well, you have to buy it now, I can't sell it to anyone else, so I would like what I am asking" (which was £280.) He paid up in full, and off he went. What a night!!!
lotusless Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 the most memorable one i have is my mate was a production saloon racer in the 90's + he knew lots of the top drivers, i went with him to high wycombe one day to test a toyota corrola rwd,(lsd standard i think).well we went there + met up with JERRY MARSHALL who uesd to sell cars aswell, + he took both of us out in the car and to say that man was a lunatic is an understatement!!!! i remember one roundabout in the middle of nowhere + we must have slid round it sideways about 20 times, we were doing 120's down the dual carrigeways + he was just chatting to us like we were on a sofa!! that man was a true legend + as i met him a few more times a very nice bloke. i know its not osf but hey ho i was bored! p.s not a test drive but i did buy a very rusty floored anglia from bracknell berks in the early 80's it had bubble arches, madadash, fooking wide wheels ect. but the funniest thing was seeing the road flashing past my feet on the m3!!!! the things you do when your young
