Rick Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 forgive me for being stupid again but im looking at some of these roll cages and im thinking how the heck do you get that in the car, i cant see any parts that you can take apart or am i just missing something. surely its easier to get in with smaller pieces and weld/bolt them in?
caprifan Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 ...I may be wrong but a weld in is literally welded together pole by pole in the car.......a bolt in usually splits up..a rear section is normally already in 1 piece, with front sections bolting together...thats how my capri one is..
Rick Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 they all look so huge and i can never see a join
105Nick Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 My brothers MK1 had a climbing frame in it I thought it was so cool when I was little. No mate, you have to cut the roof off, drop it in then weld the roof back on over the top Seriously, bolt in means its bolted together then to the floor wheras weld in cage is welded together and welded to the floor. Have a look at the safety deices website it shows where the cage joins in differnet places. http://www.safetydevices.com/content/view/17/39/ Most basic is the rear hoop, with either fixed or removable diagonal, obviously to get the cage in you need to strip the interior out first, though most caged cars will be running buckets and harnesses anyway. Next step you can add the front half of the cage which bolts up, and if you feel the need then door bars can be bolted across the openings, though realistically these are only for serious competition (my brothers was an ex show car and only had a drivers seat so it didnt matter). Classic ford did a guide to fitting one in the Project Injector Capri ages ago, it looked a right pain in the arse.
