As you may be aware I run a website for MKI and MKII RS Escorts

A number of registered members would like me to organise a "club" stand

I have enquiried to various Show organisers and their application forms require signing by a "responsible" person !!

Their T + C's contain the usual - all damages and costs will be met by the undersigned blah blah blah

This is a Public Liability clause !!!

Has O/S/F got sufficient cover ?

If so where did you get it from ?

How much ?

Thanx for any help

PL insurance will usually be required from a club especially with an event such as track day. This is in case someone tries to sue the club as a result of an incident/accident resulting from the club's undertaking. Can also happen for a simple incident like, I dunno, the gazebo blowing away and damaging a car, etc.

Apologies if I'm talking to the converted...

No way mate  you are spot on

I just happen to read T+C's and I would not sign a form without having PLI behind me

Too many "Blame & Claim" sharks about

Its Ok saying "it will never happen to me" or "sod it dont bother"

BUT it does happen to somebody and one day it will happen to you

We don't currently have Public Liability Insurance and to be honest we have assumed that this is arranged by the organisers of the event we are attending. I am just waiting for Steve Philips of Classic Ford Mag to confirm this for the Classic Ford Show event.

With regard to our Brighton Run ..... while we are parked at The Marina we are covered by their Public Liability Insurance PROVIDING we have copies of everyone's personal car insurance certificates .... no certificate on the day, no entry to The Marina.

If anyone can recommend any company for PL insurance then I would be pleased to hear from them.

I have enquired about this before and was sent a form by a company but all the questions/criteria on the application form are relevant to a club that is actually organising an event and not a club that is just attending an organised event.

After all .... if you went to the fair as a visitor you would not be expected to have your own PL insurance :?

Correct Jo

BUT

Your car would be in the organisers designated public car park area

You would be visiting the stands and not be part of the stands

As a visitor your safety is the Liability of the organisers and the Clubs/Traders/Attractions on site

Been thinking about this one and, OSF isn't a company, it's not a club with membership fees and therefore possibly doesn't come into PL category. But I'm not an expert so not entirely sure. I think an acid test is what the organisers have to say, i.e. CF/Santa Pod as you said or any other show organisers before any money is spent...

quote from the bookin form for classic ford show

Insurances

26. Exhibitors are required to hold a minimum of £1 million sterling in

Public Liability Insurance cover and have the necessary insurances

against claims by third parties for fire, damage and all other risks.

Exhibitors must also indemnify the Event Organisers against any claims

for damage and/or any expenses incurred for whatever reason arising

out of the Exhibitors’ attendance and/or their exhibits on the Event Site.

The booking of a trade stand shall be deemed as confirmation by the

Exhibitor that the necessary insurance cover has or will be obtained,

and that the Exhibitor agrees to indemnify the Event Site and the Event

Organisers and the Event Organisers’ staff and the Event Organisers’

agents and stewards against all and any claims which may arise.

Just had this back from Classic Ford :(

Hi Dave,

regarding public liability insurance. We do have it, but it only covers such things as members of the piublic falling over a car and breaking their arm etc. If for example one of your stand cars got damaged then you will have to sort that out yourselves. Hope that clears it up.

Doubt il be the only one thinking that if i put my car on the stand and it got damaged i wouldn't be covered!

Lots of other stands seems to have cover...............

UPDATE !

James Forrester - Classic Ford Show Organiser

We have spoken today

Entry form is printed wrong it should not have said exhibitors !

Insurance Section is for Traders ONLY

BUT

Any damage to your display cars is NOT the liability of the show organisers

Also no selling/trading is allowed on any Exhibitor stand because if you do then you become a trader and need PLI

Hope this is clear

See you all on the night before on the campsite @ the Pod

No different to parking in any public place ... you wouldn't be covered in the supermarket car park or a pub car park or anywhere else that is public but you still go there. You seem to know a lot about the other stands insurance so perhaps you could ask on our behalf who they use as I don't know what other stands will be there

We are looking into it in any case and will let everyone know what the outcome is.

I think your find that your car is covered in a public place unless, stated on a sign that says 'that your car is left at own risk'

And i'd love to do the running round to all the other stands that will be at classic ford show and find out the details of there PLI, but i unfortuately dont have the time, which is the same reason i am no longer a mod!

So i wish you good luck!
