surfingturnip Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 cool nice to see somrthing a bit different with the tribal theme. The normal ones seem to have been done to death a bit

escortmad79 Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Beats the plain St George Flag design anyway

mk1ian Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 what sort of money did you guys pay for those tattoos, just wondering £45 mate but i know tattooist its usually £75 do you not think it worth paying more and getting a high quality piece done? i mean its there for life i ve always been of the rule 'a good tattoo isnt cheap and a cheap tattoo isnt good' what so dont you think is quality then? the blokes name is mike nobel he has a shop full of trophys and he just won the best unique tattoo comp , so it cant be that bad fella! never heard of him to be honist, i ve done a google seach for him and nothing came up so cant really be a big mover in the scene. Nearly every tattoo studio in the country seems to have loads of a awards these days but what does that really mean!? there are 100's of small tattoo shows around the country these days and thats how they get these awards, The only awards worth/mean anything are the manchester tattoo conevension and the london tattoo show, these are the only shows where the top artist in the uk attend and enter thier work. i ve been luck enough to be tattooed by some the top artist in the world including Horimasa of the Horitishi tattoo family from tokyo Japan, Ian Flower whos tridional japanese work is second to none in the uk, Louis Malloy ( whos know for doing all of Beckhams work) and Richi Clarke. Tattooing has moved on so much in the last 7-10 years and there are some of the best artist in the world working from the uk, including Louis Malloy of the middleton tattoo studio, Jo Harrison of modern body art, Jason Butcher of Immortal ink, Matt Dafia of the KDS family,Ian Flower of newskool tattoo, Steve Bryne of in name and blood to name a few, these artist are booked up months in advance and there work is second to none, clean, sharp, rich colour and stick to the tradions of japanese /tribal/celtic tattooing have a look on louis malloys website and some of the others and i think that they will blow your mind. Tattooing is a beautiful art form with a rich history but it seems in the uk most people cant get past dodgy tribal which is done very badly and doesnt even have anything to do with the tradional way in which it should be done, england tattoos and football tattoos, These are the kind of tattoos that gave tattooing a bad name in the 1960 -1990's. and the industry is still trying to recover from. The best way i ve heard it described is 'dusk till dawn and football are the worst thing thats ever happended to this deeply beautiful and historic art form' harsh but true and was said by one of the top uk artist i hope i havent pissed you off with this post its just i know that your tattoo could have been done so much better, Its a nice idea mixing the st george's flag in with tribal and it could have been a stunning tattoo if it was done by true 'award winning' artist
escortmad79 Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Troy Bond in Torquay is one of the top artists in the country, he did some work for Steve-O from Jackass last year but try looking for him on google & you won't find a lot about him. Decent artists don't need to advertise, decent artists get recognised & recommended
Trevmk3 Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 i understand what you are saying about the football ones, the next ones of mine are going to be of a subject close to my heart, first some scripting and then a custom piece that i will get a tattooist to draw for me as i have no drawing talent in the slightest ever form
mk1ian Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Troy Bond in Torquay is one of the top artists in the country, he did some work for Steve-O from Jackass last year but try looking for him on google & you won't find a lot about him. Decent artists don't need to advertise, decent artists get recognised & recommended true but there also renound and a good artist will be 'famous' in tattoo circles. do you really think that the tribal piece on page one was done by a top artist . most of the colour has fallen out, the flags round the wrong way and isnt straight or level in the way it tapers down, the scipt isnt consitant, the 'tribal' part of it isnt sharp and doesnt flow properly. i found some of troy bonds work on the net, its alot better than the artsit mentioned befor. nice clean lines etc but from what i ve seen doesnt set the world alight. because he tattooed steve-o doesnt make him a top artist, if you look at steve-o's work 90% isnt great any way, there crazy tattoos done for shock/comedy value not quality.
mk3cokebottle Posted June 11, 2007 Author Report Posted June 11, 2007 you havn't pissed me of mate at all critisism is good i love it, it wasnt anything national it was a local tat comp between several local tattooists, now as for the st georges flag being upside dwn it isn't if you look its not only a flag but a cross aswell , its a very political peice that i thought hard about having , being english is a proud thing and i beleive in this strongly when i heard that the true english flag is in threat i had to have a peice done and i asked him to mix all three and i liked it , so i had it done it is quite a sharp tat but my camera is shit you can have a look when i meet you out at a show or something , its not actually finished its the start of a full peice im having done on my right arm if you know any other tattooists in the guildford area that could do a better job to my budget then all suggestions are welcome.
