Trying to etablish the problem with the fuel gauge on a 100e, the car was positive earth but is now negative earth. Using an old manual it tells me that if I remove the signal wire the gauge should read full but it reads empty. Should the results of any test be the other way round as it is now negative earth? :?

Cheers.

on a negative earth vehicle if you earth the wire which you removed from the seder unit the gauge should read full providing the gauge and wires are ok

Yep, Dave is right... Earth out the signal wire onto any part of the bodywork, and the gauge should go up to full.

There is no difference between how a Positive or Negative earth vehicle is wired... the current flow is sent the other way. If your gauge doesn't go to full, you may have a broken wire or a faulty gauge

Cheers gents I owe you a  or two.

Problem solved (I think) the sender was not in the right position in the tank. Sender moved now got half a tank! It was really doing my head in. I will know for sure after a drive and tank up.

Cheers
