Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 seriously no daft answers like turn up the radio what can i do to stop brake squeal its when im braking (not rattling around or making a noise otherwise) i cleaned and cleaned and greased the backs got anti rattle springs fitted i cant tell for sure but i think its only drivers side front its deff not the rear brakes and its when theyre warm too not so bad when cold
flyingbanana Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 are your pistons sticking...causing the problem after you clean them....has they would all ways be rubbing......not used green pads before....so couldnt comment if they are any good or not
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 no the pistons arent sticking theyve been all cleaned up and refurbed its not squeal after braking not binding its a terrable loud squeal whilst braking also the pads are newish and give off alot of dust (maybe they are cheap nasty pads ) they were fitted before i bought the car but the calipers were done by myself as they were sticking when i got car
Burns Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 my other half's car does it too, done it since she bought it, brand spankin rover 25, i'd be curious on how you fix it too... exactly the same, only when it's warm on braking, not at any other time...
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 you havnt got something in beded in the pads might be a bit diffcult to see i would try changing them first as they are the cheaper than the discs
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 yes thinking pads or discs ive swapped the pads round from o/s-n/s still the squealing on mainly (if not only) o/s
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 no when you had them the other way round ware was you squealing
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 still always squealed mainly or only on the o/s all the time before and after everything ive done i say mainly the o/s because i cant quiet make out if the n/s is squealing too because its that loud on the o/s its always the o/s which starts the squealing
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 dave when bracking heavly do you get any juddering in the sterring wheel? if not and bracking straight with-out holding wheel would more than likley to be the pads,
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 yes there is a slight bit of juddering when you first press the brake pedal under heavy braking but eases off very quickly
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 sorry dave was in the bath right juder is caused as far as i know, wappdisc, groves in disc, un-even brale balance, thined discs cause wheel wobble under heavy bracking as long the sterring is set propley, how to tell weater discs are wapp the way i have found is to take the pads out and spin disc looking through part ware pads go,groves look like l.p,, un-even presure is caused by partly siged calpear, but you say you had them apart was the any rust causeing piston stic, are both sides of brake pads roughly same thickness, or is one side worn a lot more, erm if iy was here id be able to tell you straight away what it is if you cant see any-play in the disc when you spin them then i would put my money on changging the pads,i would change the pads
Gareth Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 Sounds daft but make sure all your bolts are tight, Had problems like this with hydro discs on bikes
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 thats not daft matey had it happen to me bolt fell out of calipear that held it to the car leg
wolf666 Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 clean the front of the pads with emory cloth that should work mate
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 clean the front of the pads with emory cloth that should work mate tried that no luck
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 here mate im susprised your mrss is letting you mesh about today as its your special day id go with new pads is it on cortina as they no more than £20 i would have fought good luck for tonight mate
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 also my mate said discs might be warped so if they are slightly warped can this cause it to lead to squealing but i dont really understand how to check them the pistons one was rusted in quiet baddly and the pads are more a less evenly worn is it the dust causing the squealing and maybe judder as it doesnt do either straight away after a clean think ill save up for some vented discs and a spacer kit oh and new pads too
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 yes it can cause the judder and other noises i dont no if you no how to clean your calipers up what i do is w.d40 and some fine wet and dry i do the inside of the calipers and the pistons them selves you might need to get a rubber repair kit though for your pistons,if you havnt cleaned the rust off then the piston is going to stick and that would cause noises as well
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 yeah done that exactlly as you described (the calipers) so now its either warped discs or simply the pads so your saying the dust from the pads may cause a bit of judder as they do seem extreamly dusty for some reason so have i got a newish set of dodgy pads by the sound of it ??????
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 as it been sat a long time as pads could be foc*ed if so id still go with new set only one problum i see with fitting seconds dune this my-self what i have put on havnt been much beter than what i took off but give it a go you never no if not
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 when i say newish pads i dont mean i put second hand ones in i meant the lad before me fitted new pads not very long before i bought the car i would always fit new ones (usually when theyr worn )never had to change pads for this reason before just took a look at the discs the said side you can feel slight worn lines as you run your fingers across it the other side doesnt
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 dave sorry been out by the sounds of it hes repaced pads and hasnt done the disc are the grove you can fell them easy if you can then thats propbley what it is as your pads are not makeing clean contact if the groves are not really bad the pads will bed into them but takes time as iv had this my-self
louie bagel Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 its the discs bud, your already got warped discs so they need changing anyway, what happens is when you put new pads on worn discs they start rubbing on the edges (inner and outer) of the discs so get them changed, its a normall thing with brakes, however new vauxhall brakes squeel even when you change the discs, i'll send you a pm with my number if you want me to explain
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 ok cheers guys i will put up with it while i get some vented discs and spacer kit for the callipers sorted out may as well upgrade at this point
