lee_capri Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 well thinking ive doing a vent on my v8i was thinking ive only haveing the one were the induction kit is which is postioned were battery tray is what i need to no? 1, do you need 2 as i fought they were for air-intake to the filter. 2, does the second one do any-thing. 3, would they be any-gain in proformance or would it be just noise. 4, if done to close to filter would it suck in water(rain).
over_head_cam Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 I would have Thought that the air flowing over the bonnet wuld be a little too slow to make any difference on the induction side. Far better to vent from the front panel.
lee_capri Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 have no room to go through front panel as i have a BIG RAD it as 2x kenlow fans on it with room to spare in the middle
over_head_cam Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Personally I can't see any real gain in putting it in mate. It would be purely cosmetic I think
lee_capri Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 if that is the way it is over_head_cam il leave alone
Gonzo Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 i've heard they can make a noticeable difference in underbonnet temperatures if you got em facing backwards and towards the rear of the bonnet, but don't quote me on that. might be more beneficial if you're running summat with a bit of poke.
Copey Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 if i put any vents in my bonnet what i would do is cut out the front of the power buldge and put vent in ther, a bit more subtle
over_head_cam Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 if that is the way it is over_head_cam il leave alone I'm no expert, but it seems to make sense
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 the answer to rain is yes my mates let in water (though it was heavy rain) and ran like a bag of shit
emu Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 A vent facing backwards will help reduce underbonnet temperatures. Apparently a vent facing forwards needs to be pretty big to have any real effect as an air intake. This is why the ones on things like Imprezas look like someone has grafted on the channel tunnel. Least, thats what I remember reading somewhere.
Anglia68 Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Bonnet vents are mainly for letting hot air out as it gets trapped in the engine bay and we all know that cooler air makes more power.
