I cant get the feckin sleeve out i havent got a socket the right size to twat it out either its doing my head in. Any advic before my mallet slips and goes through the windscreen???
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Shit, just thought, are both the bushes in the arm void bushes? as in upper and lower? coz that'd mean im gonna have to get spring compressors and take the spring off to and i hate doing that. Its doing my head in this!
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Help please before it starts raining again!!!!!!
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Right hada sandwich and a cuppa and im going back out. Ive just realised that ive been speaking to myself for 4 posts. hmmm
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 hi to remove the rear coil spring you dont need a spring compresser remove the stabilizer bar from the lower arm position the jack under the lower radious arm(the one under the spring) and remove the front bolt lower the jack and ease out the coil spring you need a spring compresser for the front springs though also once i got the metal bit of the void bush stuck i had to use a small hacksaw to split it then knocked it out with a chissle remember to fit the new ones the right way take note how the old one sits in they go a certain way
james p Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Right hada sandwich and a cuppa and im going back out. Ive just realised that ive been speaking to myself for 4 posts. hmmm i was listenin mae just couldnt help
MK5 Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 there's a special tool you can get for doing the void bushes...
toad650 Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 thats the way i get bushes out too, Hacksaw in two places down the metal ring chisel the bit out then the rest should be easy to get out.
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Cheers guys, was just trying the hacksaw thing then and my saw broke! Cheers for the help. just broke my standard shitty ford jack and it nearly made the car topple over, that would of been a bit crap! Ah well. Oh and i know there were people listnin i was laughing at my desparation of replying to myself!! Cheers again, im off to homebase to buy a saw and several blades, and a chisel that isnt made of rust. Managed to get my ball joint separator jammed in the hole, note to slef, dnt use the end of the ball joint separator and a lump hammer to get the sleeve out - it wont work..... It aint easy on a drive as bad as mine when the axel stands are two completely different sizes and slowly sink into the ground... Gah!! For a good garage for shelter and space! Wish me luck!
toad650 Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 I know that feeling had to do my build in a carpark outside my flat which was on the 3rd floor grrrrrrr next house gotta have a garage!! Good luck anyhe
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 my next house gotta have a garage too cant you borrow a trolley jack from someone itll be easier than the old ford jack plus you need a jack unnder the radious arm
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Ive got a two tonne trolley jack but thet tends to go cock eyed when its lftin as my dive is tilted! Its a bit of an arse but at least i do have off road parking i suppose anyway...... UPDATE!! Got the sleeve out! What an absolute nightmare of a job these soddin void bushes are! Now does anybdy know the correct procedure of putting in the polys? Ive found one that fits but it has a flat edge almost like a D ibn profile (the middle is round) are these the right ones fthe lower voids? Think im gonna have tostart on the other side now wahey!!
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 i think the upper void bushes are the same size but they must face the correct way as the bush isnt solid it has two eyesor holes in which should face forwards to understand properly you should take note of its position before you remove the old one the bottom radious arm bushes are two different sizes
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Sorry mate im a bit lost!! You say "two eyesor holes", not sure what you mean! Ive got all th bushes sitting next to me here but i dont trust the sizes of them as i had to pretty much cut 1/5th off the steering rack D bush bfore it would anywhere near fit in So the bushes that go in the holes on the actual Diff are different sizes? How come? or is that not what you mean?
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 no not the ones on the diff but they do have holes in unless yours ARE solid but mabe the not a hole all the way through i ll try and find a pic of what i mean give me 10 mins
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Cheers mate that'd be great! i should have said, all my new bushes are solid polyurathane ones
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 yes ive just been looking at poly sets they are all solid so you should have four the same size which are for the upper arm (the axle casing and front of upper arm) two longer ones for the rear of the bottom arm the d shaped should be for for the front lower arm good luck
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Cheers mate, do you know if the D goes with the flat bit at the bottom? sory for all the questions and cheers for ya help!
toad650 Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Polly bushes are usually solid aren't they? they were on my cappa. I just kinda squessed mine in with bits of wood n a G clamp used a bit of grease to not sure if thats recomended but hay there in. Had to put the centre tubes in before i started squishing them in as i found that kept them straight and i couldn't get the tube in once the bushes were in. Thats what i did on the cappa but blood swet n tears are still to come i guess
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 what do mean D shaped you got a pic i thought maybe slightly different to the others but not a full flat side that wont fit the front lower arm sounds more like a anti roll bar bush
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Its not the anti roll bar one i've got them in all the front is pretty much done the bush is kinda, hang on ill get a pic!! I havent done the bottom or top arms at the front so they are also in the pic somewhere. Ive done the rest at the front though. THought id add a cuple more while i had the camera out! My working space The Void bush sleeve i was wrestling with for hours Current jobs What Ive done on the front so far And what i did on returning from the test station
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 yes right here goes the four the same size are the top rear void bushes (all the same) the two similar to that but longer are the lower rear arm bushes the two d shaped ones front lower arm bushes and the other four thinner ones are the (front of car) bottom and top arms also have you got a price for the whole lot you bought and a contact number of where to get them just confirming prices before i get some for mine looking good so far like it im not on my own working in the english outdoors
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Cheers mate! Im not sure how much exactly they were you'd have to PM DaveyC he sorted it all for me, they are from Deflex though i think or at least the company they became after going broke!
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 ok ive got some prices but they vary so much how you got on with them
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Well on the whole they've been great, and the front end already feels ten times better, i did have to shave a lot off the big steering rack D bush though before it would go on properly but apart from that id recommend them
