Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 how far have you got with the rear ones now front looks great
Daveyboy20 Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Cheers dude, I havent got very far with the rears yet im gonna carry on tomorrow i need to try and get both sides on the axel stands so that i can jack up the diff and undo the shocks to drop the top of the arms off so thats my first job tomorrow, then i need to get the offside void bush out so out with the lump hammer and chisel again! Hopefully this time tomorow night ill have them done, or is that just wishful thinking?
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 should be done if your at it tomorrow
Daveyboy20 Posted July 27, 2007 Author Report Posted July 27, 2007 Right, its all off, springs, arms and ARB. gonna paint them all up in a bit while they're off, do you reckon theres any point in paintin the springs? i was thinkin i might just sand em off and paint em red but then will it all just flake off with the movement? Im using hammerite. I got a void bush removin tool but i have no idea how to use it! Ive only got one of the bushes out (the nearside lower one) so i need to use it on the other three - any one know how? Heres a pic of it
bomber1 Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 remember me step dad doing this years ago on a mk5 estate we had. u have to use it so it pulls the bush into the tool and u can only take them out one way if that makes sense like i say it was proberly the thick end off 20 yrs ago
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 as he says you pull the bush into the tool so sit the largest part over the bush and use the packing washers and nut tighten the nut drawing the bush into the removing tool if that makes sense
Daveyboy20 Posted July 27, 2007 Author Report Posted July 27, 2007 I went out and worked it out in the rain! Jobs a goodun all the bushes are out - thing is, none of them seeed emotedly damaged? am i missing something or did the MOT tester see me coming and remember what he used to fail Cortinas on?? Anyway, i dont care because its gonna handle so much better with these solid polys, managed to pant the arms and the ARB and my drums between showers, just gotta wait till tomorrow for everything to dry and i can whack it back together, cant wait!! Cheers for the help everyone
bortaf Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 DOH missed this one sorry is this any help? the D one is the axle end so it misses the larger diff housing on the H/D axle
Daveyboy20 Posted July 27, 2007 Author Report Posted July 27, 2007 Cheers mate, Im a bit confused now (again!) There are 4 bushes in the arms obviously one at each end how come on the pic there appear to be three bushes for each? Ill be putting it all back together tomorrow. Whats H/D axel, am i being daft?
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 to me it looks like theres maybe two different bushes a D shaped one or a standard one i dont know what a H/D axle is either but from fitting void bushes in the past ive not fitted a D shaped one in the axle end void it surley wont sit in correctly the hole is round i think you need to get another pair of round bushes and do away with the D shaped ones
Daveyboy20 Posted July 27, 2007 Author Report Posted July 27, 2007 Its not the actual bush thats got the D shape its the flange (bushes and flanges eh? ) you can see on the pics on the other page i think
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 oh yes i see now so put them in the void basically all four void bushes are the same size the lower arm rears are long front short so you should have 4 same if the D s are included in this then that your 4 voids 2 same long 2 same short
bortaf Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 That was a pic of a set and a few extras i was ID'ng for somone else hense the extra ones here and there
retro_car_man Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 you know im only 2 mins away if you get stuck? can always give you a hand
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 H/D axle = heavy duty i thought it probally stood for heavy duty but what axle is it where do you get thm from and how different are they
Daveyboy20 Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 you know im only 2 mins away if you get stuck? can always give you a hand Thumbs Up Cheers dude, i might give you a knock if i get stuck again! Hopefully today will be a bit more straighforward now ive got all the bushes out and everythings painted up We'll see eh?! Cheers for the advice everyone, is the heaavy duty axel a mk5 standard thing or just the v6?
bortaf Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 H/D axle has a larger diff housing, a cappa LSD fits in that one Usually found on Mk3 tinas in vairiouse ratios, Mk4 on the 2.3's and on "some" Mk5 2.3's with the 3.44 ratio The bushes wont look knackerd when not under load, the rubber breaks down and goes soft allowing the movment without actually looking different, a few more months and they would rip appart and start to disintergrate
