kirk10 Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 any body advise me on how to fit a fire wall or has any 1 got any pics of theres can you buy them or do you have to fabricate 1 your self
meXEco Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 I made my own-pretty easy if you take your time with bits of cardboard first to get the right shape over rear tubs etc. Is it turreted-mine is so was a bit trickier but still well do-able. Especially as they cost £50 ish for a bit of alloy. My first was an offcut of alloy from local steel suppliers-cost less than a tenner i think-used the bit of card behind rear seat which was a perfect fit (no turrets on this one) Riveted in and sealed around edges with seam sealer. Mornings work. Just done another over turrets in steel-again an offcut for less than £10-bit more work and had this one seam welded in for strength. DIY it mate.
kirk10 Posted July 27, 2007 Author Report Posted July 27, 2007 ok chears any pics mate think i will make 1 out of steel and weld it in place like you say what gauge steel sheet did you use
meXEco Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 I'll try and get some in morning-if i can remember my photobucket log-in lol!! Dont know the gauge-was thicker than bodywork steel anyways.
escort new boy Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 my Dad didnt really put it in for fire reasons he put his in so he didnt have to look at the backs of the seat when he opened the boot
over_head_cam Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 I reckon aluminum would be a better material as it's a lot lighter, and easy to work. Like meXEco said, cardboard templates and patience
meXEco Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Pics (hopefully) First one in alloy (Mk2 RS2000) 2nd in steel (Mk1 with turrets) Last shot shows where i had to 'relieve' the area to allow the rear shock bush and washer to sit-could have done something else/better but it'll do. Hope that helps a bit mate.
kirk10 Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 do you brace the 2 turrets then behind the fire wall yes
meXEco Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Dont think its really necessary but i had a bit of tube lying around so my welder friend added it for me-which was nice. I'd imagine it would help though yes.
